you need to take excercise and eat healthily
the gudielines vary but for a woman of normal activity to maintain a normal weight it's recommended that we eat 1500 in a day.
the best way i found to lose weight was to eat a good brekfast - it starts your metabolism early on and so yu are burning calories for another 5 hours as opposed to not eating until lunch time.
eating healthy snaks also worked for me - i eat what i want with a little treat every so often. and i think i look fine

It depends on your weight and activity level. If you were at a healthy weight and running a few miles a day, that would probably not be enough. Dieting is absolutely proven to be ineffective. Typically restricting your calorie intake and doing nothing else will simply slow your metabolism. The key is simply burning more calories than you consume, and many studies have shown that higher complex carb and higher fiber diets, that are low in fat and sugar, are most effective in weight loss. If you can burn 4000 calories in a day (extremely unlikely), then there's no problem with eating 2000 or even 3000 calories a day. I'd say if you are at all active though (I mean exercise, not just typical day to day stuff), 1000 calories a day is not sufficient. It's very difficult to get enough fiber, protein, and vitamins/minerals, with that caloric intake, especially if you eat any fatty foods.

My doctor put me on a 1200 calories per day diet.
I think this is a bit more realistic than 1000.
A body can get by on 1000 but a little extra is really better so that there is not such a drastic shock to the system.

No. Women are supposed to have up to 1200 calories a day so you're doing well on 1000. I couldn't do that without starving mtself, I'm sure everything I eat has about 200 calories each!

I was told by my doctor that going below 1200 calories a day was not healthy (I'm 5'1").
"You should never reduce you daily calorie intake by more than 1000 calories without medical or dietitian supervision. This means that women should aim for at least a 1,200 -1,500 calorie diet. Men being more muscular need a minimum of about 1,500-2,000 calories per day in caloric intake."

Everything I've read says to NOT go under 1200 calories, no matter who you are. I've lost about 65lbs in the past year, and I've never eaten less than 1200 calories. If you're working out, you need all the energy you can get!

Depends on what your weight is, but I probably wouldn't drop down to just 1000 calories a day.

Yep, no matter what your height, going below 1200 calories a day will just slow your metabolism down significantly. Keep it at 1200 (lots of whole grains, lean protein, fruits/veggies, and non-fat dairy) and up your exercise to speed up your metabolism and lose weight.

How much do you weigh? Either way, 1000 calories is way too little, your body will begin to think you are starving and it wont allow you to lose weight. I am assuming that is why you are doing this... (you need to add more info to your question)
