I was at IHOP with her and she took her napkin, dipped it in my cup of water, and cleaned a fruit stain she got from some pancakes on her pants. She claims that that isn't weird, I think it is, who agrees with me?

Is the fact that she dipped her napkin in my water weird?

She is your mom, she can dip anything she wants in your water and it should not be weird. Just be happy that you and your mom have a relationship where she feels she can dip her napkin in your water. Hey tell your mom Hello.

Hmmmm....if this has never happened before, I could see how this could upset you. But if this has happened many times before, and seeing that she's family, I don't see what the big deal is. One, its a napkin, not anthrax. Two, it's not like you couldn't get another water from the waitresss. Three, if your mom didn't need to do it, I'm sure she wouldn't "put you out" like that. Weird? Nah. Ettiquette faux paus? Maybe.

I would have just offered her the whole glass at that point and moved it closer to her....if I was then thirsty i would just ask the server for a new water. Never make a scene over it, you can not control others actions....she should have asked for her own water or asked to have yours....but in most cases the person should excuse themselves and take care of the situation in the ladies room!

I guess it depends on what kind of relationship you and your mom have, are you close, have distense? If you were close, the napkin dipping thing wouldn't be weird. If she had her own water that 'would' be weird.

It's weird that she used your water without asking...
Hope you didn't want to drink that!!

What happened to her water or why didn't she go to the bathroom to clean herself?

My mother used to do it all the time. Now, I find myself doing that as an adult too.

I don't think that it is weird at all. I would have done the same thing.
