Well coming from the same situation all you can do is this. Find humor in the nasty things she says. Laugh even when it isn't funny. This will piss her off more and you will look like strawberry shortcake. She will look like a mean bit** to her son. Also take her to the side and maybe try to find out why she is so nasty. This rarely works but in a few cases. If she is only nasty to you then the best thing is to be nice. By getting sucked in to it you will come out the loser and look bad doing it . All this coming from someone who has successfully kept there mouth shut for 9 years. I now think it is hilarious to piss her off on purpose. It was very hard at first. Crying always followed but now it is fun to watch her go ballistic. Good luck

oh my god you have one too? Just bite your lip as often as you can but if that does not seem to work any longer than just give it to her straight and raw jsut lay out the cards on the table and go from there I had to do it with my mother in law and now she knows her place when she comes into my home and she knows when to keep her trap shut about the way her son and I raise our kids and so on so just give it a good try but if that dont work out for you just do as I said and let her know her flaws and her place she is the mother in law not the hubby wife or the pope for goodness sake not everything she has to say is worth hearing

There is no better way to deal w/a mother in law than to just be nice to her, even though she may be mean. The Bible says to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. But i am not saying get out the boxing gloves, what I'm trying to say is just be nice to her n pray for her every night, ask God to soften up her heart and to not think of herself all of the time.

The best way to deal with her is not to deal with her at all. Just avoid her if possible. Because chances are if you try to establish any kind of relationship with her, she might just try to push your buttons and set you off.

Just hang in there and be as nice as you can to your father in law if he is still in the picture. That will eat her up more that anything. Your spouse proably doesn't like her he has to be nice do to that is his mother.

There's no chance she is going to change, so just keep quiet, shower her with smiles and deal with it. Hopefully (or not) she won't be around to inflict her abuse on you forever!

don't deal with her...well unless you live in the same house than you're fu&*ed, but if you don't try not to deal with her, sometimes is best for people to stay away from their own family for thei own sake.....good luck!!!
