buying diamonds is like handing money to murderers and slave drivers. Thousands of children are enslaved in African diamond mines and are worked to death for these jewels.
instead of diamonds look for a jewel that is mined here in the US where there are child labor laws.
not only is it morally the right thing to do, it is also much cheaper.

As a jeweler in the New England area, I would suggest you go to a respected jeweler in your area. I would also suggest that you compare EGL to EGL and AGS to AGS, because their standards of grading are completely different. EGL has a reputation in the jewelry industry to be rather loose on grading standards because they sell their own stones. AGS has a good standard to grade by, and were the first to actually grade cut. Personally, I look at any EGL stone as one grade lower then it is actually marked. Good luck!

A guy I know bought one online and it was the most breathtaking diamond I have ever seen. It was incredible. He looked all over on line and spoke to the dealer. He paid around three thousand dollars. He brought to Jewlers Row in Chicago and it appraised for over three times what he paid!! He read up on the 4c's before he shopped, so he had an idea of what he wanted. Bluenile.com has some good info, as do Debeers.

Good luck!

Not that I'm trying to give them business, but bluenile.com has certified diamonds at prices that are hard to beat. I know a lot of diamond dealers are getting very angry because they can't make as much profit with sites like bluenile out. They refuse to do business with other diamond dealers that deal with bluenile. That's definitely where I would go.

At the America's Apparel Mart in Atlanta, GA (250 Spring Street N.W.), you can purchase certified loose diamonds for wholesale. There is one floor that is totally devoted to fine jewelery. One in particular is Aydin Jewelers (404-525-7447.) My husband & I got our wedding sets there. We purchased them for way, way less than they appraised for. You have to call and inform them of your interests and they will fax down an authorization for you to enter the building (usually only business owners with a business license can enter the building) Good Luck...
