Line up some action for when you get to Santa Cruz. You'll be stoked about getting some the whole trip. That's how I do it, anyway.

Oh yeh, books on CD work ok as well.

Have a full tank of gas, a few cd's, a companion to keep you awake, especially if you are driving at night so you don't fall asleep and make sure to roll down the windows for fresh air like every 10-15 minutes to keep you alert. Make sure you have a cell phone for emergencies and make sure your spare tire is full in case you get a flat. Seven hours isn't really a long time to drive, but anything can happen. Drive for 3.5 hours, then stop at a rest stop and stretch out for about 10 minutes or so, then continue on. Make sure you have a drink or 2 at your side for your journey and maybe a snack or sandwich. If you got any cd's that make you laugh, like some comedians, that can liven up the drive to your destination. Happy cruising !

Get a power converter that plugs into the ciggarette lighter and plug in your lap top. Play some DVDs. Another option is to get a LED marquee and hang it in the rear window, and have some preset messages on there. Like "you are cute, my number is..., Back off A** hol, etc."

-Listen to a book on tape.
-Make 7 hours worth of mix tapes (or CDs) before leaving and be sure to sing along.
-Call everyone you know on your cell phone.
-Before you leave, find cool places to stop at along the way.
-Stop at any cool place you find along the way.
(The last two will make your trip quite a bit longer, but more interesting.)
-Make an audio tape of your favorite movies and listen to them along the way.
-Listen to the radio or talk radio and call in.
-Get a 'How to learn a foreign language' audio tape.
-Try to find a license plate for all 50 states.
That should be a start.

Try to identify the roadkill. We count how many dead deer on the side of the road from Grand Rapids Michigan to Detroit. We counted the highest to 30....we even counted huge blood smears as one! It was fun!
