I work at 12 am to 8:30 am, and my neighbors give me bad looks when I sit on the back patio and have a beer after work. Yet I see them do it all the time when I get off of work in the evening. Is their really that big of a difference?

No, but since they may not know that you work 3rd shift, they don't understand it.

I will agree with one of the other answerers and say no, but they may not understand that you work 3rd shift, and assuming you get up in the morning and crack open a cold one. Maybe you should go over to their house one night when you get home (a night you're off) and kinda invite yourself to share a drink or two with them, explain that normally you're just starting work right now and then say something to the effect of, "Don't you guys just feel like sitting down, relaxing, and enjoying a nice cold one when you get home for work?"
As long as the drinking in your life isn't affecting your well-being or the relationships in your life, you shouldn't be bothered with what your neighbors might think. Good luck and God Bless.

I applaud your question. Standing ovation. I know exactly where your coming from. I worked nights years ago and you become accustom to the life being opposite of the norm. Yes people that don't work nights would never understand popping a top at 9am. My coworkers and I convinced a local bar to open at 7am for us and we were so grateful that we definitely made it worth their while. Long live the Grave Diggers!!!!!!!

no there is nothing wrong with it. you work a graveyard shift you arent going to drink before you go to. your going to have a drink after you get off work. and if that is at 9 am then by all means have one. your neightbors are retarded. and actually there are doctors who say wine or beer is not bad as long as you dont over do it. it is good for the heart.

as drinking can relax you after a hard day at work no there is no difference as long as it is only the one drink. you should not make this a habit as you could become addicted and your system will need this to function. try and relay on different forms of relaxation like reading a book , painting some form of activity. drinking can be just as bad as smoking.

the only difference is the time the only problem is that its in the mourning. it makes you look like an alcoholic. they feel you shouldn't drink in the morning. but if you want a brew after work then forget them! obviously your neighbors are not friends of yours, how is it they notice you drinking beer in the morning but don't notice you coming home from work? if they drink after work then they should understand

Nope!! There's no difference. I used to work the 11pm-7am shift for years and when I got off of work I'd have a couple of beers. Also, when I had days off I'd drink in the AFTERNOON and feel NO difference.

Speaking as an ex-waitress who oftentimes didn't get home until 5 or 6 am after having had breakfast, I can honestly tell you there's no difference.

That's your "happy hour"/downtime/after work unwinding. Try giving your neighbors dirty looks as you're heading off to work at 5:00 ;)

No society deems it socially unacceptable to be drinking in the morning as they would see it as having a alcohol problem but this is fairly stereotypical and hardly anyone looks into the details of the situation and just assume.
