The rest of the people (other nationalities) had to work and sacrifice to become citizens over many years. What makes the people south of the North American border so special to create marches and protest to get American rights overnite?

Well, it depends on how you look at it.

First of all, Mexico is within North America. They are American's just as much as anyone within the United States. US Citizens are just that, US Citizens. We are also Americans but so are people from Ecuador, Venezuela, Mexico etc. There are two America's - North and South.

That aside, you may wonder why illegal immigrants are protesting and demanding rights within the United States. The issue is complex but it can be boiled down to several key points.

1.) There is an argument backed by some evidence that the countries south of the United States are poor because the United States is so rich. It is argued that the United States has historically denied economic development and the establishment of economic stability to countries in Latin America precisely because their economic instability and poverty stricken condition makes it so much easier for US interests to exploit the region and extract raw goods such as timber, sugar, oil, gas, and a whole range of other resources. Evidence to support this is everywhere and goes as far back to the Monroe Doctrine, if not further. Given this state of circumstances, many from the Latin American continent and especially from our closest neighbor Mexico see the issue not as a simple dispute between two nationalities but as a human right to benefit from the wealth and beneftis afforded to the United States from their exploitation.

2.) Currently, the US economy is supported to a large extent by migrant labor. Without it, many sectors of our economy such as construction, service sector jobs in restauraunts, agriculture etc. would simply not function as efficiently. In Florida for example, strawberries are extremely cheap precisely becuase Mexican immigrants pick them. They would be very pricey and anti-competitive if we did not have migrant labor.

3.) In today's globalized world, many also argue that borders are irrelevant. To a great extent, this is true. Goods, money, commodities and information/communication flow across borders rapidly, if not instantaneously. The only thing that is yet to transgress borders so easily thus far is labor. We currently allow goods and products from Mexico into the country but not their workers. In doing so, we expose them to exploitation. For an example, look at the maquiladora plants along the border of Mexico and the United States. They exist solely for exploting the low wages of Mexicans within close proximity to US infrastructure. NAFTA was an attempt at creating an economic union similar in structure to the EU but is yet to be as successful. The ultimate goal of NAFTA will be to eliminate the borders to labor and population movement that currently exist just as the EU has done but given the extreme disparities in economic distribution between the US and these regions, it is either not likely to ever occur or will take a long, long time. Factor in the common perception that the US has not interests in equalizing the imbalance, and it becomes downright hopeless.

4.) To put it into terms you could probably relate to: their whole family has been subjected to poverty, rape, destruction, pillage and exploitation for the last 300 years starting with the Spanish Conquistadores through today's assassinations by the CIA. Enough is enough. If they can't beat us, they are going to move here and join us. In the process, they can change us and fix the problem. They might even find hope somewhere where clean water exists, food is accessible and the government isn't as corrupt.

5.) Nothing makes anyone special to create marches and protest. Everyone has the right. It is a right that we as Americans recognize to be extended to all humans as inalienable, not just our citizens.

I really have no idea, and I don't call people racists. Why is the U.S. putting a fence by the Mexico/U.S. border and forgetting about Canada. If the invaders as you say figure this out then they would come to the U.S. through Canada. How are these numbers figured out? 12-20 million? If they have no documents than how is this extrapolated. The media perhaps has blown this whole issue so out of proprtion it's not even funny. There have been and always will be illegals here. How do we find the illegals if they are not documented? Ask their relatives who might live here to turn them in? This issue will never be solved.

Other nationalities of people HAD to crossed the
ocean to get here. The country down south,

Shame both countries can't
work together on fixing the problems.

They were protesting a bill that would have made them felons for being here illegally. Mind you that the bill, was only concetrating on a particular race.

Don't worry, not much will happen, well, not until the US attacks Iran. Than the issue will come up again.

My brother, who is white and was born in Texas, is with a Mexican woman, who happens to be a very sweet person, they have two kids and he is working his a$$ off to save up enough money to get them legal. They're living in Mexico, and are waiting patiently for my brother to do the process legally, so that she may become a citizen.

Because they know they can do it and no one will do anything about it. Try going to Mexico as an american citizen and protesting. You'll be locked up quicker than you can blink your eyes.
