The application package packs, unpacks, installs, uninstalls, runs, opens and closes faster, safer, more secure and more neatly defragmented on the hard drive, with less unknown falts, freeze ups and non-responsive behaviour. Most of these improvements are unnoticably small however, so it is up to you to decide if it worthwhile.
