It's "wise" if you want one. It's important to understand risks that accompany being pregnant when you are "older", as well as discussing ways to test for these things should you desire that. But just because you are 40 doesn't mean you "shouldn't" try. You should just understand that there may a slight increase in the risk of certain problems that younger mothers might not be at as great a risk for. All of these though can (and should) be discussed with your OB/GYN.

"Wise" is an interesting way to phrase the question-LOL. I had my last baby at 40 (and a half!), and no complications at all. It CAN be done, but it is best to read up on all the horror stories and be to prepared to decide if any of the "what if" situations do arise. In the end, it is a decision your heart will lead you to. Good luck!

Have you babysat lately? Are you married and want alone time with your husband before your 60 years old. I'm 40 now, and when I watch my niece now 2, I'm pooped out. I would NEVER what to start at age 40. I've been married 18 years, we have a 13 year old and when she hangs out with her friends and gets a job in a couple years, my husband and I can start spending more alone time together. Being my Moms age when my kid gets out of school......No thanks. But good luck if thats what you really want. Just think it thru, daycare, your job, time, energy. You'll be 55 when he/she turns 15 years old. Can you afford it, right after he/she is out of school you'll be just about ready to retire. Best of luck on whatever you decide. Also--Keep in mind how it will be for your child to have an older parent, that may or may not be able to keep up.

no, 1st of all you will be too old and tired to keep up with that child. I have inlaws who adopted at 40 and are worn out from that preteen child. It's hard as a 34 yr old w/ a teenager imagine dealing with menopause and a teenager!!! Your asking for trouble. I won't even go there with the toll it takes on your body having a child after 35!!!!!

It is alright to try if that is what you really want.
There is an increased risk of just about everything though and you will be much older as the child ages. Other than that, so many are doing it, why not?

It is hard to answer this, not knowing you or your health history, but unless you have some other medical condition, it is probably okay. Nevertheless, I would discuss this with your gynecologist first before starting the attempts to get pregnant.

i used to work with a lady who had a baby at 41 years old, she and the baby ara both 100% healthy, so if you're healthy, fertile, and want a baby, then go for it.

It is your decision but talk to your doctor first. You want to educate yourself about any health risks to you or your baby. Good luck
