There must be oppposition in all things. But the truth of God never changes and we should feed our testimony by the power of the Holy Ghost and have unwavering faith in the Savior.
Those people pretend to know the things that they do not have any idea about. at least they should be polite and tolerant, sometimes they remind of the "christian" persecuters of the pioneers. haha :-) it's just funny why persecute us for our belief that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God and Savior of the world? Why persecute Joseph Smith for him telling that He spoke to God and the Son? Does not God answer prayers? or call his prophets anymore? Have miracles ceased? Have revelations and visions ceased? not with our church!!! Faithful and charitable and tolerant some of today's so called Christians are :-) We believe in Christ. full stop!!! everyone will be responsible for every false accusation they made.Let God be the judge, while standing for truth and righteousness.

1. Shall the youth of Zion falter
In defending truth and right?
While the enemy assaileth,
Shall we shrink or shun the fight? No!

[Chorus]
True to the faith that our parents have cherished,
True to the truth for which martyrs have perished,
To God’s command,
Soul, heart, and hand,
Faithful and true we will ever stand.

2. While we know the pow’rs of darkness
Seek to thwart the work of God,
Shall the children of the promise
Cease to grasp the iron rod? No!

3. We will work out our salvation;
We will cleave unto the truth;
We will watch and pray and labor
With the fervent zeal of youth. Yes!

4. We will strive to be found worthy
Of the kingdom of our Lord,
With the faithful ones redeemed
Who have loved and kept his word. Yes! oh YES

Because it is very easy to criticize. The Mormon Church is attacked by quoting from Journal of Discourses, Mormon Doctrine, Book of Mormon, Comprehensive History of the Church, or quotes from various other diaries and sources. Then we are challenged to explain that quote or statement. The quote is presented because it gives the required impression even though that may not be a correct interpretation when the context is fully understood. The Christian critics have no accepted body of beliefs or reference works that are considered universally binding or accurate. The only standard that is universally accepted is the Bible, but even then you may have to consult different versions to find acceptance. My experience is that these Christians don't allow others to suggest a correct interpretation of the scriptures. When challenged about something another Christian says, they don't feel obligated to agree with those statements or interpretations.

This is in contrast to the doctines and beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Mormon people have additional scriptures, and authoritative statements from prophets that establish a complete structure of belief and practice. All the members of the church are required to believe that which is true and a significant body of literature has been written to establish the various points of doctrine. Since the church has a standard that we all believe, it provides a large target for critics to attack.

However, probably the main reason critics have so much fun attacking the church is that the Mormon beliefs do not conform to the norms of other Christian ideas. Some concepts such as polygamy seem especially strange when they are first examined. Some Mormon beliefs seem easy to discredit, but on deeper examination it is found that there is more to be considered.

Also the Mormon people are arrogant enough to proclaim that they are the "only true church." When a person leaves the church they cannot easily join another church. They have been taught and believed that other churches were wrong. Without belonging to the "true" church they are sometimes left with no church. They might join the ranks of those who are cynical and skeptical about religions in general. Another possible path might lead to acceptance of membership in another religious faith, and most likely they will retain feelings of betrayal and possibly hatred toward the Mormon church. With those feelings of apostasy they might become very active in "winning" others away from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. If they are successful in causing others to doubt their testimony of the Mormon church, they feel justified in their own decision to leave.

Another reason that the Mormons are an "easy" target is that they actually claim to have living prophets and apostles. Our pre-conceived ideas about what a prophet is usually does not include anyone that actually walks and talks like other men. In fact even members of the church cause some problems by not allowing Joseph Smith to be a man as well as a prophet. We have the opportunity to get a close look at what a prophet really is and not what we might imagine a prophet should be.

Ignorance is a prime factor. Typically people that have a hatred for anything specific disregard logic, disregard facts, disregard truth, disregard even the possibility that they themselves could be wrong, essentially disregard anything but what they WANT to believe.

I would suggest directing questions of a religious nature like this to your parents or friends or someone you trust, that way you can get an answer to the specific question you've asked and dont have to deal with those that simply disregard the premise of the question itself. (The question was "why do antis lie and distort the beliefs", not "Are the beliefs correct?" Whether or not you agree with the Mormon faith, you can recognize that there are many lies and distortions circulating, as is the case with any religion. Take your bible quotes and your smear websites elsewhere, they are not the subject of the question.)

Because Mormons are a peculiar people, the rumor mill of observers can crank out a million new stories a day. What they say is irrelevant. If you have a firm belief in your faith, do not let it be shaken by others. Likewise, dont attack others beliefs.

Becoming a Christian is the most incredible event that will ever take place in your life. You have found peace with your Creator. You have found everlasting life! Be assured--God will never leave you nor forsake you. He has brought you this far and He will complete the wonderful work He has begun in you. God knows your every thought, your every care and your deepest concerns.

Let's now look at some of those possible concerns. First, and of primary concern -- do you have "assurance" of your salvation? The Bible says to "make your calling and election sure" (2 Peter 1:10, italics added), so, let's go through a short "checklist" to make sure that you are truly saved:

Are you aware that God became flesh in the person of Jesus Christ (John 1:14, KJV), and that he died for the sins of the world?
Did you come to the Savior because you had sinned?
Did you "repent" and put your faith in Jesus?
Are you convinced that He suffered and died on the Cross and that He rose again on the third day?

God acquits us from the Courtroom of Eternal Justice on the grounds that Jesus Christ paid our fine. We are "justified" (made right with God) by His suffering death. The resurrection of Jesus Christ was God's seal of approval of the fact that His precious blood was sufficient to pay the fine.
Think of it this way... You have violated the law and face a $50,000 fine. You tell the judge that you are truly sorry for your crime, but he answers, "So you should be -- you have broken the law! Now, can you pay this fine?" He can only acquit you if the fine is paid. If someone else pays your fine, then he can let you go, but he must have "grounds" on which to release you.

The reason we need a substitute (a savior) to pay our moral "fine," is because we have broken God's Law. To see how much we have transgressed this Law (the Ten Commandments), we will go through some of them -- Have you ever told a lie? Have you ever stolen something? Have you ever lusted after another person? If you answered "Yes" to these questions, you admit that you are a lying, thieving, adulterer at heart, and you have to face God on Judgment Day! If you have used His name in vain, then you are guilty of "blasphemy" -- you've substituted God's holy Name for a curse word. Perhaps you've hated someone, then the Bible says that you are a murderer. You have violated God's holy Law, and you're in BIG trouble. On Judgment Day, you will be found guilty and end up in Hell. That's why you need the Savior. Merely being sorry for your sins, or confessing them to God won't help you. You must turn from sin (repent), and your faith must be in Jesus Christ alone. He is the only "grounds" for God to grant mercy towards you. If you're not sure of your salvation, make Psalm 51 your own prayer

That is an uneasy question. As a former Mormon myself, I can say that alot of the beliefs of Christians towards the Church is faulty. However, it is regarded so because it is on an edge of actual religion. Christians see it as a bastardization of their rules, and many practices of the Church (such as polygamy) made the church look like a hedonist's paradise. In fact, the Church itself has grown alot since then, but it has still been ignored as a legal church. Many still consider it a cult. The truth is subjective, the past of the church is shady it was founded by a criminal swindler), but the current church is quite different.

Well, Mormons have a corrupted theology. There is absolutely positively not one shred of evidence to represent the Book of Mormon as being anything more than a fanciful myth or fairytale created by Joseph Smith. The Indians which are claimed to be the Jewish descendants of the lost tribes of Israel have absolutely no DNA whatsoever that traces them to the Jews of the middle east. Although the Jews of that area do. It is a corrupted corporate religous cult that preys on the weak and soft hearted to further their financial status.

I was probably one of the worst ppl at doing this i read tons of stuff on the Internet to put down the Mormon's in my area. I did it more as a joke but to me the Mormon beliefs seemed stupid, I felt the whole church was ignorant like many other ppl have already stated. But a friend of mine gave me the Book of Mormon and i read it to prove her wrong and show her the truth.

Well to my surprise I was wrong i was blinded by my hate and pride. God showed me the truth and I'm happier now then i have ever been. The problem is that when these people read it, if they actually ever do, they don't pray to God for him to show them the truth.

Never give up on these people because just like me many of them are prideful and just need God to lower them. (as he often does to me lol) Stick with it because you could change someones life like mine was changed and bring them the great Joy we feel.

Because some anti-mormons don't realize they are being fed
exaggeration and propaganda. Especially in the southern "Bible belt" When I served my mission in Kentucky and Tennesee, alot of people had all sorts of mistaken notions about the church (Including not even getting Joseph smith's name right). It was also obvious they sincerely believed their mistaken ideals and so had their parents and so on. As for the originators of lies well that's usually plain old religous bigotry and not letting go of grudges.

I'm sorry honey, but the book of Mormon is a man-made book. It was not inspired by God, but by a man that decided to create a cult. I think all people should be nice and kind when talking to those of another religion that they do not believe, but the truth is the truth. All things should be done in love and kindness.

Well, if they did not change anything then it wouldn't be a different religion.

But you also have to remember this little known FACT. The mormon religion was started by a Horse theif who claimed he was saved...

Then hestarted his own religion where you can have many wives.

Yea he save his own butt that's all !!!
