I'm a teenager.. I don't really mind if my mom goes through my journal, but that's because I mostly tell her everything anyway.
Most kids don't like when their parents read their journals because it's their personal business. A journal is something to take out your feelings. So sometimes if you're mad, you might write bad things, not just about your bad day.
So the point is that if the parent of the child just wants to know what's going on in the kid's personal life and everything, then they shouldn't read it. If the kid is getting into trouble or something and the parent is worried about the child being in danger or getting hurt, it's okay.

I firmly believe that children should have the right to their privacy. Sometimes they have things happen or even think things that they do not want others to know about.
If a parent from the beginning of a child's life has good honest communication and is there for their child the child will feel comfortable going to their parent with anything and they have to trust that.
However in cases where they are concerned about their child's safety then yes they should go through it for the sake of their child.

No. It's one thing to watch them on the internet, which is important. But it's another to read their journals. Let the kids have something in their life that is theirs.

Only if you feel suspicious about something. If you feel like something might be going on then check it out, if their just doing innocent things like the rest of their friends then there really isn't any reason to read their private stuff.

should they? no....does it happen sometimes? yes.
why? cuz the kids aren't communicating with their parents when they need to be communicated with. i mean, most kids don't even realise that parents are parents for a reason. they gave birth to you, you're their little mini versions of themselves.
from the kids view usually it, "omg my parents are my slave drivers!" when really they set rulkes and guidelines so that u grow up knowing that life is full of rules and guidelines you need to follow and live by. they're copnditioning you for the real world, not spiting u because they can. i mean come on, who wants to grow up to be a worthless person with no real iniative or set guidelines for themself? a person like that is the people u see sitting out on the streets asking for food and money. it's because they're parents didn't care or they didn't care tht they're parents cared.

i think only if there are some hazardous behaviors (depresion and aggresion) that are possibly suicidal or drug related should parents read their children's personal journals, if the child seem happy and joyful there is probobly no need read their private feelings, use your intuition

No they shouldn't. I think parents should build a relationship with the their child so they will be more likely to talk to them.

No! Kids should have their own privacy and should be able to get their feelings and emotions out without anyone else knowing.
