I grew up with a 1991 Toyota Camry. It's a sedan so it's pretty safe without it being obnoxiously big like a minivan or *shudder* an SUV. Anyway, it's not just the car that makes driving safe, it's the way you drive. Always, always, always, drive defensively. Expect people to do the dumbest thing possible in any situation.. because more often than not, they do.
Best of luck!

I have been in the car business for 15 years. Toyotas have proven themselves over and over again. Camrys are a great choice. Inside track tirvia: Toyotas have some of the best Air conditioners around. Also buy a Toyota with a J at the beginning of the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) This means the car was made in Japan, when the VIN starts with a 1 or N it is made in the USA. Unfortunately the Toyotas built here don't hold up as well.

The camry is safe and reliable. If you wer interested in safety i would look at the hondas. The honda accord (hondas camry) has about the same reliability and has more airbags and higher crash ratings. You have to pay extra for the airbags on the camry

Toyotas are about as good as they get for durability and life expectancy. They are a great choice for a family, even though they tend to be a little smaller. Do your research and see what the best bang for your buck is, but as far as Toyota? To quote my mom, "Buy a Toyota. Those things last forever."

its safe but i would go with a Chevy Cobalt sedan instead.trust me if you have to replace any major parts, you will be glad that you picked the Cobalt instead of the Camry.
