This is a really hard thing to go through. I had to have my dog of 14yrs put down due to lymphoma several years ago. The only thing you can do is, listen to your vet. Know that the quality of life for your dog isn't good and you would be ending their suffering. Do something special before you let your dog go. We made a paw print on a card and we all took a photo with our dog the day before we had her put down. We all had a good cry, said our goodbyes and knew that we were doing what was best for our beloved friend. Now we have the pawprint and our photos in a large frame hanging on the wall to remind us of our good friend and how much love and joy she brought to our life while she was here. It is hard to cope with the loss of a loved pet, but eventually it does get easier, just hang tight and know that your pet trust you to do what is right for them. You have to be their voice, and you know they wouldn't want to stay here on earth only to suffer.
Good luck to you xoxo

It's gonna suck, I am not going to lie. I had a dog when I was in high school. He ended up having kidney disease. I know it's not cancer, but I still watched him die. You have to look at this. Is your dog suffering? Is he/she the same dog that you have grow to love? Sometimes you have to put your feelings aside and do what is best for your pet in the long run. It's going to hurt letting go, but they won't be suffering. Maybe get a second opinion if you are not comfortable with that decision

I am very sorry to hear that, but agree with your vet. If the dog is not having fun living anymore, you must be responsible and let the dog be at peace. I, myself, had to deal with the death of my beloved dog last year, so I sympathize. People deal with death in different ways. Personally, I wanted another dog as soon as I could. I didn't want to forget about Noelle (my dog that had to be put down), but I wante dot take all the effort that I would have spent greiving and put it toward giving love to another dog. We adopted a dog a month after she died. That worked for me.

Try to remember you ARE doing what is best for your dog. It will hurt like crazy for a while but time truly does heal you. At first you will be devastated but as time goes on you will be able to remember your beloved pet with less and less tears and more smiles at the happy memories. I've been there, My dog was 16 years old when I had to have her euthanized because of illness.

You say your dog has cancer and is old. How is your pet's quality of life with the cancer. I groom a little Havanese dog who has liver cancer but at this point she is still playful and coping. If your dog has no quality of life, then sometimes we have to love them enough to let them go.

Your dog has been faithful to you its entire life. Loving, playing, protecting, all for you & your family. Now the dog has something it can't fix for itself. The dog has cancer. I'm so sorry to hear about that & wish you all the best. What should you do? Put the dog down. Your dog has spent its whole life thinking only of you, it's your turn to think only of your dog & its pain, not your own.

I just had to put my dog down about 5 months ago. He was only 5 yrs old. He meant so much to us. It will be really hard, it was for me. You will grieve just like losing a loved one. I hate to say it because everyone does, but only time can make it better. I got a new puppy right away which helped me occupy my time so I didnt dwell on it so much. I hope this helps and Im sorry for your loss.

Your dog is probally in a lot of pain. Just think of your dog and do what is best for them. It will hurt you and you will cry but your dog will be able to go to a much better place and won't hurt or be sick anymore. Good Luck in this.

If it will be the best thing for your dog, you should revel in the great life you have had with your dog and let it go. He/She should not have to suffer because you don't want to lose him/her. Just make sure you're thinking about your dog, not yourself.
