every country has it's own customs.
In Malysia farting is not rude but belch is.
In Afghanistan fart is rude, blech not.
In japan both are rude.
in America fart is funny but belech is rude.
In china both of them are funny.

Now that I am finished laughing at some of these answers, particularly cellyfone1's, I can answer. I say farting is more unpleasant simply because of the odor left behind & how it can damage your whole state of being if its strong enough. I have a rather obnoxious sense of humor so I laugh at them both depending on the circumstances.

Both are impoilte to do in public but farting is worse by far.

Farting leaves bad smells and happens in a grosser area than the mouth.

Farting.
Generally, it smells worse then belching. Unless you've had something potent to eat.
