This is an interesting question, and I'm not sure it's valid as it stands. How could Christianity possibly be detramental to human flourishig, when the basis of Christianity is God's love for humankind? God loved us so much, that He let His only Son, Jesus, be sacrificed on the cross for man's sins, so that man would be able to spend eternity with God in heaven. You can't judge Christianity by the imperfect people who follow it. If you want to judge Christianity and what it stands for, than you need to read the Bible. "Finding a better system" is not an option. One, there isn't a better "system", two, this isn't just a religion to choose from among the thousands. I understand I'm a bit biased because I am a Christian, but everyone who's tried to disprove the Bible has never been successful. Thus, if the Bible is 100% true, you can discover who God is and how much He loves you through reading His love letter to you; this is the best way to learn exactly why "Christianity" is the only answer.

christianity is a religion. We live in America and have the right to freedom of religion. Although there are various religions and beliefs out there it is up to each individual to decide what they want to practice and believe in. That given right should never be taken away. We are not in a system, but maybe you meant that there are alot of Christians in the world who are not "flourishing" because they are really not doing like the teachings of Jesus Christ. If that is the case, then they should not say they are Christians. There are "Christians" who go to R rated movies, cuss like a sailor, lie, cheat and steal. The world would be a better place if people read the Bible and truly acted like Christians suppose to. Read the book of John in the Bible, that is the life of Christ. Then read the book of Romans it explains how a Christian should lead their life. Then ask yourself, How could it be detrimental.

No one has gotten it all "right" yet. Christianity as it stands is less than perfect because so many teachings have been omitted and taught to be rejected. (I,e: Apacrypha, Ancient Gospels and so on) and those writtings which are deemed "acceptable" only tell a portion of the truth. It's a little hard to be successful without the whole truth, though some may well pull it off. There needs to be a true meeting of the minds without bias to re-evaluate what is being taught.
Ya know, God didn't reinvent Adam & Eve ... he just pionted the way and lets the cards fall where they may. I think people like you who ask this type of question are really who God is looking for: One who searches for truth with all their heart.

Relativism comes into play on this, in that I guess it depends on how one views if Christianity was detramental to human flourishing. Many people have biased opinions against and for Christianity. Some views of the faith are even warped into various heretical doctrines, that didn't come around until the middle ages.
Take the basic commandments of Christ love thy neighbor as thyself. Also take into consideration of speaking truth and love. Love without truth is blind, truth without love is like a 'clanging cymbal'.
Some people don't feel comfortable in worshipping a God that doesn't physically and tangibly make himself visible. Faith is a very important aspect in many peoples lifes. People need to realize we live in a world that is full of bigotry. Every religion has a certain aspect of truth in it... The most important part is to not bigot against those who believe differently and to love one another and to preach love and truth. BIG QUESTION FOR SOME IS: WHAT IS TRUTH in this relativistic world.

You're assuming that "human flourishing" is the best thing for mankind. What if it wasn't? What if the best thing for mankind was to be drawn closer to God, and to be made more noble through suffering? What if the best thing was for us to learn through poverty how to be self-sacrificing and to love each other? You really don't know the answer to that, you see. And so I'd have to say that as long as you don't know what the ultimate purpose of mankind really is, then you're in no position to decide what's the best thing for us. Furthermore, we believe in Christianity because we believe it's true, not because we think it's useful. Nobody would want to believe a lie, no matter how useful it is, and nobody would want to give up the truth, no matter how costly and difficult it might be.

Why would you choose Christianity for your question? Since when has Christianity proven to be detrimental to humans? Christianity itself is only a belief, a faith. What you are speaking of has to do with single entities taking on the torch of the church.
However, if it is PROVED that Christianity is the ONLY RELIGION that is detrimental to society, I think we would ALL work to find a better system. No one wants to believe in a crock.

This question cannot be answered fairly, because it puts the person answering in the postition that all other systems of belief or religion are seperate from christianity and that it can be ended, for what ever reason, without changing the other systems.
