I had a maryland bridge put in and the dentist made me a retainer and charged me $500.00 for it. I had 1 cm space between my teeth he wanted closed. I told him the retainer was not working so after 2 days he used a little piece of wire and put it on my teeth and it closed the space. He took it off before the bridge was put in. I just don't think I should have to pay for the retainer if if didn't work! What do you think?

Due to the nature of dental treatment there are no aboslutes or guarantees in the world of dentistry. Everyone's mouth is as unique as his or her finger prints. The dentist tried the retainer in hopes that it would close the gap in your teeth. It is possible that the retainer would have eventually done what it was supposed to do, 2 days is not necessarily a long time. Did the dentist charge you for the treatment with the wire? If not, you still paid for the treatment, weather it was done with a wire or the retainer. He legally could have charged you for both. Did he explain to you your options before making the retainer? I agree with everyone else in that you should voice your concerns the next time you are in the office. It may be possible that the communication in the office is not very good and the front office was not aware of the intentions of the dentist.

From a legal standpoint, he did the work, and that's what he may have charged you for. Go back and ask him exactly what he charged you for. If it is the correction itself, you have no case. If it was the retainer, you may take legal action. Hope this helps!

I agree with you! You need to speak to the office manager or the denist directly! If it didn't work, you should not have to pay for it. Period! That's a lot of money and you should stand up and fight for it. It definately won't hurt to talk to their office about it! Go get your money back! You can do it! good luck to you!
