Also, you could get a bank in the theme of the nursery and start a savings account for the baby, tie the bank book around the bank for the new parents and baby. You can also use a baby blanket to wrap up your shower gift.

How about a handmade coupon book, offering "Time Out Of The House" certificates for the new mom, after the baby is born? So you'll be offering to look after the baby, while she takes time for herself, or to run errands.

a diaper cake. Take Cloth diapers and fold them in a roll and make a cake out of it and put rattles pacifers etc. all around it.
