I do not think it does. I have bee non Paxil since 1995. It has totally helped me and I have been on many different doses as well. I was on anything from 10 all the way to 50 once a day. Now I am back down to 15 mg a day . the only major side effect I have is that it passes through your liver so any other medicine may be enhanced if it also passes through your liver. Just tell the doctor you are on paxil before he gives you any other meds, I have not found to have any trouble other wise. Alil sexual side effects ( lack of orgasm) but over all PAXIL is an excellent drug I think!

I have a friend who has been taking paxil for 4 years, she has gained some weight but she is overall a very happy person now because of that medicine... I think if it is working for you then you should keep at it.. All medicines today have effects on the body. If you are concerned talk with you doctor. Good luck, And God Bless!

This is an individual thing. Many people have taken the SSRI class of medications for many years (since they have come onto the market.) The truth is that we don't know what the real long-term effects of them will be. At this time it is safe to say that science has said that there aren't any long-term negative effects of taking them. Sure... you've got your crummy side-effects: weight gain, sexual difficulties, sleep disturbances... the list goes on and on. These subside upon discontinuation of the med though. If the medication works for you then you should continue to take it. If you have any concerns at all discuss it with your PSYCHIATRIST (sorry... I am a firm believer that only psych doctors should dispense psych meds... they know the side effects, and effective dosages best...)
