Yes, my parents do when they do more then they are really "supposed to do". It's also nice to give them something cold to drink during the hot weather once in a while, just to show appreciation for the job they usually do. My parents will give them bottled water or something like that sometimes during the summer.

By the way, anyone that doesn't think what they do is important - try living without garbage pickup for a month, and then see what you think.

Sure! I'm a caregiver, and one of the clients I take care of has a very steep driveway that the garbageman walks up to get her cans so she doesn't have to put them on the street. So she asked him what his favorite candy bar was, and she puts his favorite candy bar on the garbage lid every week :).

In general it's always best to tip any kind of worker, may it be the postman or gardener. A sign of respect.

Yes, as the son of a garbage man, i know that he treated the people better, that treated him better. They tended to be the people that had their barrels brought up to the garage on windy days and things like that.

Yes of course. Normally I do it at Christmas time. They provide a service just like the mailman - who also gets a tip.

My father would leave a 6 pack on ice in one of our cans at times for the trashmen- it was new, clean, and no trash in it of course, you know the party cooler trash can. Those garbagemen never forgot us, ever.

heck yeah! anyone who does more than they have to deserves a tip. Especially people working lowly jobs. No one gives them any respect.
