I have been reading so many post and was wondering what is happening to our ability to use proper english. Reading all the miss-spellings was like listening to a band out of key.

And these are probably the same people I turn down as employees simply because i cannot have their lack of skills and intelligence representing me and my company. I am sorry, but no way.

The decline in ability during the last 4 decades has been incredible and I wonder just what happened. I do not attribute it to computers and spell checkers either. I think it goes much deeper than that.

To begin with:

"so many post" should be "so many posts"
English needs to be capitalized.
I should be capitalized in "because i cannot"
It's misspellings.

Snarky I know, but people that post, blog, send email, etc. tend to type in a relaxed manner. Add in multi-cultural differences and I think you have a big part of the answer.

I for one don't have a problem with it, it's rather like listening to somebody actually speak. I expect that most folks could sit down and write an elegantly wrought and grammatically accurate answer if they wanted to.

I really don't know about the English education that is brought to students in the states or all the English speaking countries... But try to remember, that on this site many people have English as their second language (such as me : p) so we do try our best to speak and write it, because English is so important... but for us, obviously it will not be perfect because of the mentioned reason! I know how you feel though because the problem is the same for the french language here in Quebec ( Canada). Many people struggle with their French, it's almost epidemic.. probably because they never studied it enough, or the teachers they had didn't offer proper grammar classes?! I am clueless as to that, all I know is that we have to try to maintain French, English.. all languages really because languages are beautiful and just so important.. they are the key to success! In my opinion anyways.

People have stopped caring in a lot of ways. You can get away with everything. Lack of knowledge has become a fashion statement now. There is a 'So what' attitude prevalent everywhere. Improving yourself and asking about things you don't know is ridiculed and the 'know all' attitude is to be blamed. If you know a lot of things you are called a 'misfit' and a 'geek' and if you act smart and don't know a lot of things its fashion and you become 'cool'! What's wrong with our society?

It has to change or things are just going to get worse. No point blaming others for it.

it has actually been proven that younger ppl who rite short handed like I am on line and on IMs helps them with their grammar. they think on the fly so it is more of a conversation than something 2 rite. I would never spell like this in a formal paper or on a resume!
