By the way kudos on that Rush Limbaugh - divorced, Jim Baker - divorced, and the overall 70% or greater divorce rate - America is doing sooooo well, we sure wouldn't want anything to tarnish the image of marriage.

Yes, it should. God loves all of his creations. Christianity is supposed to be inclusive, not exclusive. Although some people have given Christianity a bad name. There are many good and loving Christians, both gay and straight.

With this vein of thinking then, all sin and immorality should be outlawed. However, it is not the role of government to issue bans on sin and immorality and matters of the soul. Such a ban would simply lead to more sin. Read Romans chapter 7, it details this. The Word of God is the sole governor of the human heart. It is though, the responsibility of the government, as established by our founding fathers to recognize or not recognize marriage as acceptable or unacceptable. Certainly gay marriage is not the only kind of marriage outlawed. One cannot marry their siblings, their mothers or fathers, their own children, those of a certain age, their pets, nor can they marry more than one spouse at one time. The government is responsible for governing these actions, they are not simply a matter of the heart but also rather, a matter of legal standing. You would agree that a marriage must be recognized by the state wouldn't you? Without government, marriage would be a free for all, with no boundaries in which to keep order. In matters of divorce, as Jesus said, we have been granted that right because of the hardness of our hearts. It shouldn't be, but because we refuse to let God govern our hearts in regards to marriage, many end up in divorce. Should the government ban divorce? Well, if they must govern its institution, then they must also govern is dissolution....

Okay, I meet the definition of people to whom you are posing this question and here is why the situations are different. Dr. Laura Schlesinger, a few years ago, offered what I thought was excellent guidance for whether or not divorce is appropriate. She called the criteria, "the Three A's" - Abuse, Adultery or Addiction. This distinguishes the really good reasons for getting a divorce versus the shallow and superficial ones (e.g., I really don't like him / her any more).

Gay marriage is something that was never envisioned in biblical times, although the Bible does address homosexuality in Leviticus and in other places.

Sure am. Both are totally wrong although divorce is allowed for in the case of adultery but not really condoned. Nowhere does it allow for homosexuality in the bible and the divorce was only allowed because of the hard headedness of the people and then only for that one thing and nothing else. Be better off if both were banned.

The term 'same intercourse marriage' would not seem in the Bible. in spite of the indisputable fact that, the implication is obviously there. First, marriage in the Bible is often defined as between a guy and a woman. Genesis 2:24 it particularly is why a guy leaves his mom and father and is united to his spouse, and that they replace into one flesh. additionally, the prohibition of homosexuality is clean. Leviticus 18:22 (NIV) “‘don't have sexual kinfolk with a guy as one does with a woman; it particularly is detestable. Leviticus 20:13 (NIV) “‘If a guy has sexual kinfolk with a guy as one does with a woman, the two one in all them have finished what's detestable. they are to be positioned to dying; their blood would be on their very own heads. for this reason, the clean Biblical doctrine is against same intercourse marriage.

Christianity does not accept divorce as a general rule. There are some circumstances where it can be allowed (such as infidelity), but Christians should view divorce as negatively as homosexuality

why do you think that?
If the true spirit of Christianity be followed then making it illegal to escape abusive marriages is very bad indeed.

Most gay ppl wont want to get married in Church.....but there are a few Churches that will do it, who openly support homosexulity in part of the US gay christian movement.
A few!

jaylor_60, I'm confused. If God is cool with divorce, why did Jesus say that any man or woman who divorces, then remarries someone new, is committing adultery?

Yes, it should definitely be outlawed. We'd all be much better off, if that were the case.
