KD is a special formula given to cats that are currently in renal failure, there may be very little you can do. Ask your vet to update labwork (BUN & Creatinine) to find out if it is worsening. Maybe some Fluids under the skin and a few days worth of canned AD will get her weight balanced. Changing food now is not a good idea.

You should feed the best quality food possible to ensure a longer life. This will not be cheap, but if you want your cat around, then it will be worth it. Check out Blue Buffalo cat food. It comes in dry and canned. I would try that for your cat. The dry comes in "Mature" and it is also holistic. You are what you eat and this is true for animals as well. Don't feed the crappy foods that you get in the supermarket. Go to the pet store to buy this. This is what I am feeding all my cats. From 16 years down to 3 years. They seem to be thriving on this food. If your cat wasn't 10 I would suggest a raw food diet. But most cats at 10 are pretty set in their ways. I found some commercial raw food diets at a small pet store around here, but my cats pretty much won't eat it. It's too different that what they have had for so long. I am sticking with Blue Buffalo and adding a little Avoderm in for healthier coats.

At 17 your cat is getting very old and a number of health issues could be at play. It could be her teeth hurt and she can't chew, she may be ill and not eating, she may be eating and not digesting etc...
Rather than just buy random foods and asking here, the best bet would be to direct this question to your vet and have your cat checked. Be sure to note her behavior for several days befor your appointment (is she eating, does she eat dry or wet food, has her stool changed).

proteins aka raw flesh
Try to get your cat to eat at a regular interval(once or twice a day)
Make sure your cat has a water source that is fresh(storing water in body fat is as true for cats as it is for humans)
Some cats are just built skinny
If you belive that the cat has lost a lot of weight in a short period of time take her to the vet

This is pretty good advice you are getting from everyone. Hill's or Iams should have a formula to address whatever your kitty's health issue is, or, if she doesn't have any (way to go!), to help her gain weight. I have a boy cat that is older and getting skinny, but he only has about two teeth! I had to start giving him special, softer food and keeping his food away from the other cats.

If she is only on dry KD, i would recommend getting some canned KD to mix to add weight. Also, speak with your vet regarding Hills ID, which is a weight gaining formula.
Thanks

First I'd check with the vet to make sure there are no medical issues - she is getting up there in age. Then, boiled chicken, that is shredded, and given in small amounts will be tasty to her and easy to digest at the same time. It may help.

Wow that is a good age for a cat!!! I use dog food it keeps my cat good and plump and it also likes to eat animals that are outside, like birds, squirrels, field mice, and rabbits.
