The answer depends upon what's causing the headache, of course, but the #1 sign of dehydration is headache (#2 is fatigue), so drink a big glass of something without caffeine in it and wait 20 minutes. Should do the trick.

I agree with Crispy, I get headaches easily so I never leave the house without a couple Excedrin in my purse. (man that would be a great commercial, just imagine me popping a couple of those babies into my purse and while locking my door I say, " I never leave home without my excedrine" Then they'll show me picking up a bunch of little kids from a soccer game, as the reason for all my headaches) *sigh* I see it now, it's beautiful!

Have someone rub your neck with Icy Hot. Another option is to buy a bag of pinto beans or any other beans, stick them in a long clean sock (we always buy brand new socks just for this purpose), put them in the freezer. When they are really cold, place them on your neck and/or your forehead and leave them there. These are two tricks that one or the other usually seems to help my husband with his migraine or tension headaches.

If you have migraines, medication is your best option. Excedrin Migraine is a miracle! if it's your standard headache take some ibuprofin, it reduces swelling. Lie down and close your eyes. About 20 minutes or so you should be doing much better. If you can find the liquid ibuprofin capsules they work even faster.

It depends on the type of headache.

I usually take some ibuprofen with a cup of coffee and then eat something. It nearly always works. For tension headaches I've found that heat on my neck works well.

95% of headaches are caused by dehydration - drink plenty of water.

A dark, quiet environment also helps alleviate the problem. A nice long nap also helps too.

If you decide you require medication, aspirin is probably the best (unlesss you have an allergy to it).

Read a home remedy book or look at new products that treat headaches.

Pressing your tongue up on your soft palate for a minute or so might help. I read this recently, and tried it with my next headache and it worked.
