Why do they feel like they have to lie and make stuff up when they have no idea where their ancestors are from?

You are not cool by making stuff up...

I ask a simple question like " What nationality are you" ?

and they tell you " Oh I am a mutt I am 1/2 chineese, 1/3 italian, 1/9 dutch, 1/30 english, 1/90th Norwegien, 1/5 German , 1/8 French, 1/3 Portuguese, 1/2 Chiwawa and part German Sheperd"

It's silly they mention every country in the world and the most annoying part is when they finish naming half the world they finish it off all the time by saying :

"Oh yeh I'm also part native American "Cherokee"!

If you don't know.......DON'T make stuff up! It's silly! You are not any cooler by making stuff up!

We are NOT going to say " WOW you are amazing "

I mean I am from Central America ( El Salvador) I am light skinned with light hair. When people ask me where I am from. I DONT say

"oh I am part Mayan Indian and Spanish & 1/4 Chiwawa"

I am cool now.lol

hi. this is my 1st time answering a question so hope i do well. this sounds like this is very important to you to really get to know someone. sometimes people make things up to impress you. they want to look "cool" as you say to you. i am in the united states (and old enuf to be your grandmother LOL) kids here will say they are part cherokee or other type of indian as that is cool here too. we in the u.s. sometimes have many nationalities in us. i was asked that question the other day. i just say "american" because if i said 1/4 german 1/4/ french, 1/4 english, 1/4 austrian they don't care anyway. you sound like a really intelligent kid. and i love your answer to say "cool". i belong to a site called "ancestry.com" it traces one's ancestors back over 100 yrs. i need this info to belong to a organization here. i'm not sure if it could track others out of the states? why not? check it out. it's fun to know where our family was from.
just remember too, when you ask a question to someone, and they are embarrassed not knowing the answer like when the teacher calls on you in class, they feel scared. maybe you should only talk about this to people you are very good friends with. to some it is very personal and others may not have had the benefit of their family telling them like you did. some may be adopted and really not know. now, that's embarrassing. in the end, it really doesn't matter as we all are part of the human race. keep up the good questions.

I bet you are part Chihuahua.
It just so happens that when my family looked up our ancestry, my father's side is German and Irish, and my mother's is Italian and Native American.
You know, the whole melting pot thing in America... where everyone's ancestors traveled over except for the Native American Indians.
That's why there are so many nationalities mentioned.
You spell badly and your attitude is worse.

This is America - "The Melting Pot". I came from 4 grandparents. None of my grandparents parents immigrated from the same country. Therefore, I have ancestors from at least four nationalities. I know that my Grandpa's father(on my father's side) was German and my Grandmother's father (on my father's side) was Dutch. My Grandmother's (on my mother's side) family tree branches back to Quanah Parker somehow. Just because your parents came from the same country and your grandparents and their parents came from the same country doesn't mean that women lie when they say where they came from. Americans come from many different nationalities - deal with it!

Ranting and raving makes you cool? Wow, I should rant and rave more often. I am a mutt, but we are in the process of tracing my heritage back (and it does include Native American), but the family name comes from Switzerland. What's the problem with saying those things if they are true? At least I didn't claim to have any dog in my heritage.

You need to take a chill pill, dude.

When people tell you all that, its because they are proud of their ancestry. It's not that they don't know. In fact it sounds like TMI (too much info) for you to DEAL WITH!

I myself: American Mutt, however, I also know my family history and origins of my ancestors. You should skip this if its TMI for you.

Irish, German, English & btw Cherokee Indian too. But it so far back, from my great, great, great Grandmother on my father's side.

Its not Stupid, its called Pride. Are you not proud of your family history?

The truth is that you are who you are. Some may say that you are' what' you are. I would never tell a lie about myself intentionally just to please a bunch of 'puritans'. I mean they will never be able to take from you what your 'ancestors' have passed along. You might have just the right combination of genes from all your fore bearers, to be great and amazing just the way you are....without a title , or class. Anyways,.. we have come a very long way in our family trees."WE ALL HAVE".. So we can all just be proud of what we will become in this life....if we can.
Have a nice day!

I hate that too. ONLY GIRLS DO THIS WHEN I ASK. If it's a dood, he just says white or mixed or something simple. It's not even girls i'm interested in. I'm not trying to date them or anything like that. It's just a simple question like, "what is your name", or "where do you work". and (don't get mad people) almost always if they say they are native american, they always say Cherokee, as if they are the only native american tribe to exist in the US.

I blame it on women just wanting attention. Screw all that "I'm just proud of my heritage". cause based on the responses, only women are proud of their heritage then.

Dude, you are lucky if your woman doesn't claim she is Queen Sheena from a long line of princesses from the planet Zeeenon Persia 9.

After awhile you come to expect crap like this from women. Ignore it and focus on what is important about them....sex.

Why would anyone make up their nationality? Thats like making up a name or pretending to be a dude when your a female. LAME. I'm 3 nationalities. None of them are "cool" to be, but I am proud of them none the less.
