Re-enlist. Unless you absolutely hate it. My husband is up soon to make that same decision and I'm all for re-enlisting.

I wished I would've stayed in years ago. Now 40 would've had the 20 year thing over 2 years ago. As it looks with companies screwing workers just about everywhere not sure I ever heard of the military screwing up retirment. I know some very happily retired service members who really fought in the crap. Ia Drang Valley battle Nov 14-16,1965 Vietnam. Alot of the soldiers I have talked to from the book and movie WE WERE SOILDERS.(Mel Gibson and Sam Elliott) who played Lt Col Hal Moore and SGTMAJOR Basil Plumley of the 1/7 Cav and now retired. So I would say get the 20 years you will be young and retired by 38

It seems to me, that you may not want to reenlist as it is likely that most of your question's responses will lean in that direction. However, it does not matter what anyone on this site thinks. This is a decision you need to make with your friends and family. Nobody here can help you as it should be obvious that this site is dedicated to the blind leading the blind.

First off, Thank you for your service to the country.
Secondly, before you make a decision on re-enlistment you should carefully consider what your goals are. The Military can provide you with some outstanding training and educational opportunities if you choose to take advantage of them. If you like what you're doing and you're good at it you might want to consider staying in.

Extend for a year or two. If you get out you have to go back in for a minimum of 4 years and you might lose some rank.

It's your own personal decision. You have to decide what is best for you, and upon which path your desires lie.
Nobody else can decide this for you. I do, however, recommend you pray for guidance - the Big Guy won't steer you wrong.
God bless.
