I've had this same problem a few times with my cats and kittens. You can try a wide variety of things, some are more messy than others. You could try the following:

1. Get a new hose and slice it almost the whole way thru. Then you can put your wires and electrical cables inside the hose and electrical tape it shut.

2. Sprinkle black pepper or cayenne pepper on the cords, once the cat gets a good whiff of that, he or she will back off.

3. Make a paste with flour and water and a whole bunch of pepper on it and rub this mixture over your electrical cables and wires.

4. Take a few lemons and thicken the juice with baking powder and spread this on your electrical cables/wires. Cats don't usually like sour stuff.

5. Don't put anything on the cables, instead take a spray bottle and fill in with water and spray the cat every time he or she goes near the electrical cables/wires. Some cats hate getting wet.

If all of these fail, I suggest you talk to your veternarian about it and see what suggestions and or solutions he or she might have.

Good luck and I hope you and your cat be the best friends to each other!

Oooh you have a chewer too? That's a toughy. I basically found that I just have to keep them all out of reach. The cables that I can't hide, I went to a computer store and got some cable wraps. Check out this photo on this website: http://www.cable-safe.com/index.htm . I don't know exactly what you call them but they basically take cable "spaghetti" and make it neat. There are many kinds of cable management products. You can probably even find them in Home Depot. I found that the repellants don't work or wear off too quick. Best bet is to wrap the cable so that when the cat bites, it's biting the wrap and not a live electrical wire! I hate to say it, but eventually, if your cat chews through the wire, it will get such a jolt that it is unlikely to ever try that again...unfortunately 110 volts may be enough to stop your cats heart and kill it, so I pray that doesn't happen.

I haven't had a problem with my cats chewing on wires. I have to be sure not to leave out anything plastic, but wires are not a problem.

First of all, keep many out of reach as possible. You can block off certain rooms for a cat's access.

Second of all, try some bitter apple solution, or buy a special solution from Petco or Petsmart which is citrus based. Cats do not like the smell of citrus.

Try taking a fresh bar of soap and rub along the cords or cables. The smell is too strong for cats to stand.

Get a spray called "Bitter Apple" from a petstore. Get cable organizers that wrap around the cords to keep them out of the way. Keep the cat in the bathroom when you can't watch her.

You may need to rabbit proof your house. This is a common rabbit problem and on www.rabbit.org they go into detail on things you can buy to coat your cords so the bunnies can't chew through them. I'd suspect it would work well for cats too.
You definitely do not want your cat to chew on cords. Electrical burns to the mouth, heart-lung trauma, and death are all things I have seen. So thank you for looking for more information.

You can make a mixture of water, oil, and a little hot pepper to convince your pets to stay away from cables. Easiest thing is to put a couple of jalapeno peppers (or serranos) in a blender with a cup of water and a teaspoon of vegetable oil. Paint it on the cables with a brush.

hide the cables by hanging them off of the ceiling or put boards around them that should keep the cats away from them.

you can get some cord covers from the hard ware store to make them inaccessible...also set up a fake cord (so kitty doesn't hurt him self) and get a spray gun every time he goes to chew the cord spray him to help him to break the habit....make sure also to keep some other kitty toys around for the Kitty to play with they need an alternative.
