I am also a software developer. this is my philsosphy about this issue.
1. i believe a developer should be rewared for their effort (and therefore people should buy the software)
2. cracks are mostly viruses or spyware from my experience so i avoid them. additionally i think that cracks are useful in terms of developing technology to encourge ligitemate use of software.
3. i think if a developer is so trusting that all they say is that you are not allowed to pirate software they are idiots. i reckon if a developer has not included crack proof code in their application then it is fair game for crackers to crack. in other words the responiblity of the software not to be cracked is up to the developer, they (we) must gaurd against crackers by making our software secure. this way everybody wins because software makers earn a living and pirates go out of business.
so wake up developers make your software secure!

Those who crack software will largely subscribe to the philosophy "all software exists in the public domain" which means that software is created, essentially, by the public for the public and nobody should have a right to charge exhorbitant amounts of money for their software.
Case in point: Microsoft Windows 98. A darn-near REQUIRED upgrade to 95 to make your computer at all usable, yet MS charged the STANDARD $89.99 for the upgrade, just like it did when you upgraded from 3.x to 95 which was a MAJOR overhaul of Windows.

I buy all of my software (or win it in contests, etc) I do not.. and will not use cracked software. I have multiple computers with the same program on all of them... if the program will be used by multiple people at the same time.. I have a site license for it... if not.. I have permission from the company to have it installed on multiple computers with the assurance that only one person will be using it at any one time...
If I don't want to follow those rules.. I get freeware.... and put up with the reduced capabilities.

If by cracking you mean finding keys to illegal software copies I definitely DO NOT do that. I develop software (mainly with C++) and I know the effort making a simple application takes. It wouldn't be fair for someone to steal my money by cracking a copy of my program and stealing my time too.
Be fair. Care. It isn't cool to crack!
