...I still spend all my time at the driving range as I am a little nervous about getting on the course and teeing off with some decent golfers standing behind me waiting to play on. How good do you have to be to just get on the course without embarrasment and does anyone have any hints?

I love golf! Practice at the driving range using your wedge, 9, 8 irons. Chipping and putting are the key to the game.

Option for playing with better golfers. Go ahead and tee off. If it's a good shot play it. If not play your second shot from your cart partner's lie...explaining you are new to the game and don't want to hold up the foursome. Don't keep score at first, it will only make you mad...really.

RELAX is the ultimate key to golf. It is a GAME to be PLAYED and should be fun not work.

if you're ever in myrtle beac, I'll play golf with you!!

You dont have to be very good to be on the course, just be courteous to other golfers. Dont spend a ton of time looking for balls and play quickly but comfortably. Pick up if you are way behind or have taken a lot of shots on a hole. the main thing is to keep up with the group in front of you and dont hold up anyone behind you. Everyone who is out there was out there when they were beginners too and most will be understanding. Don't worry about embarassing yourself, just have fun.

If you're waiting until you never make a bad shot, you'll never play. I have an 8 handicap, but still put drives in the woods or a lake nearly every round, so don't worry about it -- just get with some friends, go out and play! The range is just for working on your swing, but you won't get good at the GAME of golf until you get on the course and play regularly. So much more is involved than just the swing -- course strategy, risk/reward, chipping, etc. that you'll never develop expertise in on the range.
EVERYBODY makes bad shots on the course, even the pros. Nobody is going to make fun of you if you duff one. So don't worry about it, just go play!

A round of golf takes more thing that just hitting the ball in the range. I'd say you need to get going with some friends that play decent golf to help you out. And as soon as you can get airborn with driver or three wood with some 200 yards distance, go for a round. You may screw up and hitting too many shots in a hole that the group behind try to kill you with all sort of weapons, so be prepare to pick up your ball, quit the hole, and go for the next hole.

Don't need to actaully play the rules and complete the 18 holes. A few rounds like that and you good to go. I used to tell my friends that it doesn't really matter how bad they play, just bring lots of money!!!

Go out there and play. Play an easy course first, recommend a par 3 course. I just started playing golf this year, and was really scared at first too. Go with some friends have fun and play golf. The only way to get better is to practice! Keep Golfing! It rocks:)

You don't have to be very good, if someone is waiting behind you just let them play through. What I usually do if i am going with someone who is new is go late in the day, about 2 hours before it gets dark. You might not be able to get a full round in, but you shouldn't have very many people there to rush you.

WE ALL GET NERVOUS ON THE FIRST TEE, BEING NEW IS LIKE THE FIRST TEE ON EVERY SHOT... JUST TELL THE GROUP YOU GET PAIRED WITH THAT YOU ARE NEW TO THE GAME AND THEY WILL UNDERSTAND (GOLFERS ARE GOOD PEOPLE) PLAY AT A GOOD PACE AND TRY NOT TO GET UPTIGHT, WE WERE ALL NEW TO THE GAME AT ONE TIME, JUST HAVE FUN AND LEARN, IF IT GETS BAD PICK UP YOU BALL AND WAIT FOR THE NEXT HOLE... PLEASE FIX YOUR BALL MARKS!!!

No one cares how well, or otherwise, you play providing that if you play slow you remember the first rule of golf "Call through the quicker players behind you". Second rule is "enjoy".

just get on with it and dont be a wimp. nobody realy cares how good or bad you are as long as you dont hold the play up, and you can always ask the players behind you to play through
