Fasting is first of all always associated with prayer. Fasting is for a short period (generally, but not always) and the prayer is related to something specific. There aren't a whole lot of rules for HOW to do the fast. You can skip one meal, one day, or one week. Check with a medical doctor to make sure that would be OK. Also, you can still drink water, or juice, or whatever. The two most important things would be not to brag about the fast, and to pray in place of the meal (s) you are skipping.

There are no rules for fasting - fasting is something you need to ask Christ how he would have you fast. As someone on strong medications and unable to do without food or beverages, the Lord blessed me with a fasting that is quite unique - I love to spend my time reading and crocheting as hobbies, but it has asked me to fast from these "worldly" pleasures I have and to devote that time to fasting. This means that when I feel him call me to fast over a specific situation, then he lets me know how long I'm to give up these hobbies and spend this time in prayer for the called upon situation. To fast is a private matter and not to be flaunted, it is personal between you and the Lord. I hope this has helped you.

What we observe is that it is important to keep it to yourself, 'for what your Father sees in secret, He will bless you openly". You are supposed to wash your face, annoint yourself and pray before you begin each day. Keep your heart sincere and talk with Him often if you need to to help with any temptations. A full fast is no food, no drink whatsoever for the amount of time you have promised Him. A partial is either you give up only food, or only meat and still drink; basically, you give up something in particular. But the main thing to remember is a fast is sacrificing something in order to strengthen yourself spiritually by weaking your flesh, and if it is not a challenge for you then it is not a true sacrifice. That is the short answer. It has never failed me...of course, I have a long answer, but email me if you want to know.

It depends on how observant you are. Some begin at sundown and fast until sundown the next evening (24 hours) without even a sip of water or brushing teeth! If you are ill or have a disease, you are allowed medication and some food. Others drink water throughout the 24 hour period.

There are several types of fasts.
1) Without anything fast
2) Fast with just water
3) A Daniel Fast - this one is more of a eating only what is good for you and no desserts - kind of a detoxing your body.
Only fast when God leads you to fasting - otherwise your just starving yourself.

BE SURE your in good health befor you begin any long fast.( 3 days or more)--------this is what happens:
1. first day, your body use's up all available food in your stomache and intestines. ALWAY's drink plenty of fluids.
2. second day, your body starts calling on the fat layers for energy, and the first thing that comes out of the fat layers are the TOXIN's and POISON's your body has accumulated for years. The BODY store's this stuff (toxin's and poison's) in your fat layers, that's why a snake can bite a pig, and it won't kill it, the poison goes into the fat of the pigs. Alway's drink plenty of fluids.
WHEN you go into the SECOND day of FASTING, your poison's and toxin's come out into your system, YOU will get HEAD-ACHE's, DIARRHEA, UP-SET STOMACH and alot of shaking knee's!!!!!!! YOU want to be in GOOD HEALTH to go through a 3 - day fast, it can be dangerous for some people(over-weight or medical problems).- for some, even in good health, you will be miserable the SECOND DAY.
3. If you decide to go 3 days, on the 3rd day, you will wake-up feelilng like your in HEAVEN..
IF YOU HAVE MEDICAL PROBLEMS, ASK YOUR DOCTOR!!!
ALWAYS check and double check your information befor beginning any fast(medical books) AND ALWAYS DRINK LOTS OF FLUIDS----if you can do it with WATER, drink lot's of WATER. If not, use FRUIT JUICES untill you can work your system up to using only WATER.!!!! BUT DRINK PLENTY of FLUIDS, so your BODY can WASH out the TOXIN's and POISON's, and you won't become DEHYDRATED!!!!!!
WHEN YOU BREAK YOUR FAST after 3 or more days, EAT LIGHTLY!!!! Soup is good. EAT LIGHTLY fruit is good. EAT LIGHTLY, you don't want to burden your body starting up your digestive system again!!!! Hope this helps.

Basically, you don't eat for a period (usually seven days) other than bread and water. Christians (very few Christians) who practice this technique use the seven days to reflect on their life and the teachings of Jesus Christ.

In Judaism, fasting means not eating or drinking anything, including water, for the duration of the fast. (People who are ill may be exempt.)

I think that fasting is another type of offering where you pray and give up food intently in order to get closer to God.
