Because there is no such thing as a Platonic Right or Wrong-- no idealized anything. There's only what each of us believes to be right or wrong, and so we fight for or against these things in an attempt to fulfill some kind of purpose, and because violence is more effective than diplomacy.

Duh, isn't it obvious?

Depends on your point of view. War is important to bring down oppressors and tyrants. Every war has a different reason for being. Although the current war in Iraq has a lot of anti-war sentiment, that doesn't mean all wars are bad. The US wouldn't be what it is today without having fought the Revolutionary War, making that war important. Have a super day.

Supertrooper ? what you say is rather unreal, I quote

"War can bring about TRUE peace. There are people in this world who refuse to solve problems diplomatically. Often times, when these people start conflicts to get what they want, words just aren't enough to end the death and destruction they are causing. Sometimes, war is the only answer."

You just described The US gorvernment, it is just unable to resolve problems diplomatically ( the US has the poorest record for that). it always start ed conflicts. Does THIS mean that the "coercised "should had a right go the war or NUKE the US because it is the only answer to the US inability to resolve conflicts?

To answer the question no , war unecessary, But in the eyes of the US republican regime, it want to uses the weapons it made , or it want replace it with something new cuz the US Corporate friends make profits.. none of them cares if there is food on your table tomorrow and who dies..[ this would includes don't care how many US soldiers dies because Bush friends make $$$$$$$$]

efw and JB below sound like neo nazis and fascists at the very best. Humanity fought Hitler to have it replaced by another evilo-republicanist- supremacist ideology.. We dont have to look at the axis of evil to find true evil, you can just look at the root of evil under your american feet..

War is not important. War is just another way of showing power. If women ruled the world there would be no war!!

Armies, and wars in general, are needed as a natural part of human evolution. When you look at war from a long-range perspective, it becomes clear that, as destructive as wars are, their very destructiveness has served as the primary force for the evolution of the human race. By mercilessly eliminating those who were unable to survive in the theater of war, wars resulted in a constant upgrading of both the physiological and intellectual acuity of man.

Although many bright people perish in wars, the preponderance of the casualties occur among people with the limited intellectual capacity to understand the mechanics of wars and who are thus unable to avoid becoming casualties.

Who would seriosly dispute the fact that smart people have higher living standards than intellectually less endowed persons do? War eliminates the intellectually less fit and thus, in the end, raises the average intelligence and the living standards of society as a whole.

Throughout the ages, evolution took advantage of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse, war, natural disasters, disease and famine.

If we succeed in eliminating armies and war, we are also eliminating war in its capacity as a powerful contributor to evolution by keeping the world population in check. We are now at 6 billion humans, scientific projections of growth predict 10 billion within 50 years...mostly in under developed countries. Humanity will reach the limits of available resources at 9-12 billion..this is not sustainable.

We can only speculate as to which path evolution will take in reducing the world from 10 to 3 billion. A battle for resources will favor those with higher levels of intelligence and rationality. Evolution never recedes to irrationality, superstition and stupidity.

What else they gonna do with all those weapons? Seriously, the folks who make the weapons must also create war so they use up the weapons and sell more weapons. You have heard or read Bob Dylan's "Masters of War" have you not?
