You are not covered for any type of accident or liability. Further, if you are driving without insurance, you can have your license suspended. Legally, if you are driving with permission, then you can drive. Since you don't have permission, then you wouldn't be covered by an insurance policy.

The insurance follows the vehicle not the driver so you can drive the car though you are not listed. However you could put your fathers policy in jeopardy if you have an accident with his car which in turn will cause him to pay higher rates. If you reside with him he is supposed to disclose you as a household member and his carrier would charge the approriate rate for a youthful occasional operator. He is technically committing insurance fraud if he does not disclose you in the household. I think Dad is being cheap. Offer to pay the difference in premium in exchange for driving the car.

Your dad is giving you a line. If the car is insured it is insured. However if he has not reported to his insurance company you have reached driving age he may get dropped if you get into an accident. You can get insurance on your own which will cover you for any car you drive.

You cannot drive without insurance as your name has to be under the car you are driving. If you get into an accident, your parents are financially liable for any damages beyond what is covered by insurance. In addition, you will be fined for driving without insurance when in an accident.

Your not supposed to drive a car unless your on the insurance. The whole time when I got my lisense at first I drove my mom's suv even though I wasn't on the insurance, she let me... and the insurance would have went up a lot since I was a new driver. I have been letting my husband drive our car and he's not on the insurance. Just gotta be careful and everything. It's not that your not on his insurance, it's just you don't have insurance at all, so he would be screwed if you did something wrong to it.

No, you can't drive if you are not on his policy . If you are a teenager , car insurance is quite high for first time drivers .Statistics show that teens are at most risk as drivers .I have been to funerals of many teenage drivers and most were boys . However, if your grades are very good, some states allow for a reduced rate insurance .Why don't you mow lawns on Saturday as a good faith gesture and show of responsibility , for your dad to include you on his policy ? Good luck ; and be careful out there on the roads .

Take it from me, the NO INSURANCE queen! I had to do what I had to do in times like these with no job and full responsibility of trying to keep my head above water. You can drive without insurance and risk getting caught, but be careful. I live in Houston and the blue boys are hot out here! Since moving here to Houston in 2003, I've got 4 no insurance tickets and I'm deferred adjudication for my 4th one, so I won't get my license suspended. If that happens, I won't be able to drive. Screw it, I'mma still ride with a suspended license!

If your not named on your dads policy, you cannot legaly drive the vehicle period. If you were to be stopped by the police you will pay a hefty fine, your dad will also be charged with letting an unauthorized driver operate the vehicle.you might be able to handle the fine, but can you handle your pissed off father?Depending on the state you reside in,it can also cost you your licence. My dauhter has good grades and a job.It cost her aproximatly 40 bucks a month to be added to my policy.Much better than the $125 or more you will pay for high risk ins.you will pay should you be caught!

IN VA, where I also live, you either need to purchase Uninsured motor vehicle insurance, which isnt cheap, and you might as well be paying for insurance. (from me)
Uninsured Motor Vehicle Fee (From the WEB)
The Virginia Uninsured Motor Vehicle (UMV) fee allows a motor vehicle owner to register an uninsured motor vehicle. At the time of registration, the motor vehicle owner must certify whether the vehicle is insured or uninsured.
If the vehicle is uninsured, the motor vehicle owner is required to pay to DMV a $500 uninsured motor vehicle fee in addition to normal registration fees. Payment of the $500 fee does not provide the motorist with any insurance coverage. If involved in an accident, the uninsured motorist remains personally liable. This fee is valid for twelve months but maybe prorated for a shorter amount of time.
Motor vehicle owners who falsely certify that they have insurance and are found by DMV to be uninsured face stiff penalties. In addition to facing suspension of all driver and registration privileges, compliance includes payment of a $500 statutory fee, a $85 reinstatement fee and filing proof of insurance for three years. During the three-year period, insurance companies cooperate with DMV by providing notification if a policy is canceled. This requirement to maintain proof of insurance enables DMV to ensure that these motor vehicle owners maintain liability insurance on their registered vehicles.
