I just got glasses, I've never worn them before, the prescription is -1.00 in one eye and -1.25 in the other and I have a mild astigmatism (-0.50 in each eye).

I've worn the glasses now for thepast hour and a half, and they kind of hurt my eyes. Is that normal initially? Should I keep wearing them until my eyes get used to them? They're really for distance, but the optician said I could wear them for close work as well if I want to.

Should I just take a couple of paracetamol and persevere? How long will it take for my eyes to adjust to them?

Hey how ya doing?
Welcome to the endless cycle of stronger prescriptions. I have a brand new pair of super expensive perfect spectacle siting on my desk they give me headaches I can see every detail with them in perfect 20/20 vision. Problems is I can't stand them so I wear my old prescription and my eyes are fine. My doctor refuses to give me my old prescription.
Your eyes will eventually get less strong and you'll be fine. Antother thing if your eyes feel crossed, it may be because they got the pupillary distance wrong. That can make you strain to see straight. They messed my mine up one time by 5 mm. So I memorized my PD now 65 mm. So I tell them when they are measuring my eyes for new glasses.

Yep, just persevere, it's just your eyes getting used to them. Take some paracetamol for the headaches, but if they are too bad or persist for a week, see your doctor.
I've been wearing glasses most of my life and every time I have a prescription change it takes a few days for my eyes to adjust.

This is normal love - don't worry too much. Your eyes are just adapting to the prescription of the lenses.

By all means take some pain killers and give the new glasses a few days - you will notice that you eyes will adapt to the lenses. If for any reason you have any probs then go back and see the Optometrist who prescribed them for you.

Your eyes will adjust. Watch out buying glasses from the big name eye centers. They like to add a mild astigmatism, so they can charge more to you and the insurance companies. For years, these places were telling me I had one. Then, I went to an actual doctor of Ophthalmology (as opposed to an optician), and guess what. I didn't have one.

It shouldn't take your eyes that long to adjust to glasses if they are the correct prescription for you. Plus you shouldn't really be using distance glasses for close up, thats bound to give you headaches. I'd go back to the opticians and make sure the prescription is correct.

when i got my glasses for the first time i got a pain in my head at the back of my ear not really a pain like a strain cause my eyes were getting used to the glasses and they did irrate my eyes but they didn't hurt i would phone your opticians and explain what is happening maybe you got the wrong prescription, you could damage your eyes even more if you let it go

your eyes are just getting used to the glasses.
I remember my eyes being extra tired and a bit iritating when I first got my glasses8 years ago (geez.. I had glasses for a long time!)
My prescrition at first was not that bad - it was mild near-sightedness and was prescribed to wear part time when I needed, but my doc told me to wear it full time for first week or so just to get used to it..

Once you go through that, it shouldn't be much problem. Since I have been wearing glasses for long time, that doesnt happen to me unless my prescription changes a lot at once.

My eyes didnt particulary hurt me, but it made my eyes a little tired and made me sleepy..

Lense prescribed for astigmatism is harder to get used to it..
Good luck with that, and take good care of your eyes!!

(I am completely blind without my glasses.. I wish my eyes were better..)

This is normal, you have to give them a few weeks for your eyes to get used to them. I went through the exact same thing with painkillers. I remember when I had my glasses for distance, I was told to wear them as much as I could for the first week or so. just keep up wearing them :) xx

it will take a little time for your eyes to adjust but if after a few days there is no change take them back and have the prescription checked they may be wrong
