I think if the new testament was one of the missing or destroyed books, Christianity might not exist. Is our understanding of God's will incomplete, as we are missing so much of what was recorded?

no missing books? tell that to the monks that risked their lives to preserve what they could before their monasteries were burnt to the ground. And also, God didn't write the bible, men did. I don't think that God wants me to abandon rational thought as I soul-search

Sure.
In any case, any missing information creates a distorted understanding about any given situation...

There are no missing or destroyed books. All the books which have arised lately as "missing books" have been known about for many years. First of all they were known about when they were written but were turned away immediately by the early church (which wasn't corrupt like the later church became). Anything which wasnt included in the cannon was excluded for some reasons (either the authorship was unknown or not considered reliable, or the book went against several other sources which were considered reliable).
These other books can be good to read to understand the thinking in the times as well as to learn about some other common thoughts that were present at the time that those books were attributed too. Some books are also good history but have nothing to teach us about God (Maccabees and the works of Josephus).
Plus it is impossible to know God's specific will but we do know one matter of God's will. We know that he desires Every person to know the gospel and to join him in heaven (1Tim 2:4). Other than that we do not know Gods will and we never will except in hindsight. There is no linear direction of what we should do to please God and what God expects us to be. We can do Gods will most any situation which we may be placed in. We can do that by attempting to work with the spirit and share the Gospel with others. So, don't worry about trying to always find God's will, rather recognise that God can use you in whatever you do.
I hope that answers your question well enough, if not go on and write me at paulywog82.yahoo.com.

There are no destroyed or missing books of the Bible. God has put within the King James Version of the Bible everthing He thought we needed to know. Only in our humanity do we think it isn't enough.

If you had children and had to go away from them and you left directions on how they could back get to you and you had all the power to do anything you needed to do to help them, would you let any of that information get lost or tampered with or destroyed?
With that, why would the all powerful all mighty God let any of His directions go lacking?

Beings God inspired every word of the Bible, He also inspired every page, chapter, and verse to be presented AS IS.

No. It only hinders our understanding of ancient people. The word of God does not exist.

We have Gods Holy Spirit to guide us, so while the Bible is helpful, it isn't the only source of truth.
