Adopted the neighborhood stray on Friday. On Saturday took her to have her shots at the vet, she has now urinated a couple of times in the litter box, after being locked up and constantly forced to use the box. She had diareah on Sunday morning on the floor but hasn't pooped since. And I know she hasn't pooped anywhere in the house. What is wrong? Is this normal?

You should probably run it by your vet. It could be a hairball or other intestinal blockage, or possibly worms or some other type of infection. Could also just be stress from the new surroundings, but it certainly couldn't hurt to giove the vet a call.

Hope she feels better soon!

Diarreah in a stray cat is not uncommon. Strays often have all kinds of worms and parasites and it takes some time for their digestive systems to return to health after getting their shots and deworming medication.

If she hasn't pooped by the 4th day, you definitely need to return to your vet. She may be constipated or have a blockage. I will warn you, however, against using any kind of "force" with this cat in using the litterbox. A little positive reinforcement and encouragement goes a long way. Negative reinforcement can be your worst enemy. The last thing you want to do is associate anything negative with using the litterbox. Also, cats don't want to be locked up in close quarters with their litter. Cats are fastidiously clean animals so be careful with that. When your cat uses the litter, just praise her like crazy and make her feel smart and special and tell her how proud of her you are. I know it sounds ridiculous but cats have massive egos and stroking them does wonders for bringing desirable behaviors! ;-)

Good luck!

It sounds like the stress of the changes she's going through might be affecting her system, but it wouldn't hurt to ask your vet. Shots make some cats sick for a few days afterward so that could be part of the problem too. Is she eating okay? Kudos to you for adopting her. I adopted a neighborhood stray 11 years ago, I'm so glad I did, he's a great cat.

Maybe she is still a little confused about the litter box thing, but I'm not sure when I adopted my cats from around the neighborhood they seem to know already what the litter box is for.

But it sounds like you need to talk to your vet. their could be something wrong like a urinary tract infection or something, certain cat foods are to fatty for cats and it blocks them up. Then the vet has to help them and puts the cat a special diet. I know this because its happened to one of my cats, I hope this helps you.

She's in a new surrounding, and probably eating "real" food for the first time. Her body needs time to adjust. If she doesn't appear to be in distress, let her be. If you are worried, you can drizzle a little mineral oil over her food, and that will help get things going. It will also help with any furballs that may have built up. Don't give your cat milk or dairy products, as amazingly, many cats have very bad reactions to milk. They honestly do not need that in their diet, and they is why it causes dirreah.

u can give it some milk that will give it diarhea or u can take some wet cat food and mix it with water and dry cat food... i used to work for vets office and the humane soc., its something the cat will eat and like just make sure u watch it so u know when it does finally, not telling u to give it the craps but milk and soft food will help it loosen up if shes just constipated

Could just be that she isn't comfortable with her surroundings. When i got my cat she didn't use the litter box for a couple of days. The sh*t started to fly.

well you just got her, you had all her vacc done, she probably feels a little yucky,, plus the food you just started her on she has to adjust. i would assume the vet wormed her also and hopefully did a fecal? if she has had some diarreah she probably hasnt got the food she has eaten through her system yet. just keep an eye on her. let her rest, and keep watching the litter box.

Doesn't sound normal. Aside from taking your cat to the vet, I would give it a few cheerios. It's good for fiber and when our pug is a little 'backed up', we give him a few and it helps him go potty. Good luck!
