strange smell in the atmosphere.??? if you know tell me please

Your nose is a chemical sensor.

It reacts with chemicals that pass through, with different chemicals elliciting responses with various sensors.

Today has been quite "close" muggy/humid - this is causing high amounts of ions to be produced within clouds.

as you smell the air, water particles that are negatively charged react with the sensors in your nose that detect these charged species. I would describe it as a burning smell similar to Nitrogen dioxide.

Once the thunderstorms have been and gone, the ions are much reduced - having been discharged to earth and washed out of the air by the rain. The atmosphere will smell fresher
