I can't recall any of the big research projects into temperament and heriditary since the days of Thomas and Chess ever looking into hair colour as a factor for behaviour. The big thinker in this area today is Jerome Kagan and his research seems to point to a neurological factor in temperament, his studies on the activity of the amygdala and
excitement levels in children is worth a look. perhaps you could do some further research yourself. I was ginger but my hair darkened so does this mean I am more mellow now than then?

It might have something to do with the fact that during their teens, fashion victim cliques ALWAYS continually call ginger people ugly. It happened when I was a kid and it happens now. It tends to make people a little defensive to say the least!! If you call a blonde dizzy it is sexist- but because both male and female redheads get bullied it seems to be this happy little prejudice no one notices. If you think about it it is akin to racism- you have a certain skin/hair colour and are thus labelled 'aggro' and 'ugly'. Think about what would happen if people thought it was socially acceptable to call you 'ugly' and expect you to laugh along (regardless of clothing, weight, face or anything else)- it is hardly going to make you sweet tempered, is it?
I'm a redhead and have found it go both ways- some of my friends are complete mice because they are used to being 'pushed down', some are ultra-defensive and automatically go to 'fight' mode.
The funny thing is as soon as they hit 17 or so the bullies all start dying their hair 'red' or 'chestnut' (aka ginger) to look sophisticated and people go mad at you if you dye your hair and tell you red is such a wonderful colour.

my husband was ginger haired, he hid his temper from me for 5 years then it showed I ended up getting an injunction out on him.
Not saying every ginger haired person has a temper but I certainly have lost my confidence in them

My dog had ginger hair (in fact we named her Ginger) anyways she was very very tempermental. And it's a known fact that ginger colered dogs are that way, so maybe it is true for humans!
