Oooh, I wish you'd added some more details about what she does, i'd like the dish on this... perhaps she is just trying to set some limits that you resent? or... she's a witch. I can't stand it when adults take their own petty issues out on younger children of their spouses... I bet you know what i'm talking about.

I also used to call mine a stepmonster. She treated me like dirt all through my teenage years - especially around my extended family. She was jealous of attention I got and afraid that I might be given preference over her much younger children (really, how many people prefer an awkward teen over a baby?!)

but strangely she has completely turned around, now that I am married and have a kid ("respectable" in her eyes) and maybe because her own kids now are teenage monsters and she realizes what an angel I was back then in comparison.

My step mother is just a bit off kilter I think, not very balanced, a weak person. most of all I can now see she is extremely insecure. (I feel sorry for my dad for being stuck with her, but then again, he picked her and he never stuck up for me that I could tell)

Maybe that's what's going on with yours? I'm not trying to make excuses for truly bad behaviour. if you're on the receiving end, just remember that it is her problem not yours and focus on building good relationships with other family members instead. It's your life and you need those to be strong and focused for your future.

Try watching the film with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsey Lohan, you may then be able to see the other persons perspective.
I was 19 when I got my step... never could bring myself around to calling her mother. But hey finally came round to the idea that she wasn't so bad, if it meant that my father was happy and not lonely.

maybe you 2 should sit down and talk, and promice if you 2 are about to start a screaming match, then that person will need to politely leave the room!

It proably wouldn't matter who your father married, you still wouldn't like her! She could be the nicest person on earth, but you are sad that your mom and dad are apart so of course you won't like her. It's totally understandable!

She may be jealous if you and your father have a great relationship. She cannot replace your mother and you may dislike her for it.
