Well I think the only problem America has with marijuana is that its illegal. The Outlawing of marijuana only suceeds in clogging up our court systems and making the use of the drug dangerouse for the consumer. Its not like someone can report bad marijuana to the FDA or report a drug dealer for ripping you off.
Making Marijuana legal would rebuild this country. It would build tourism, pay off the national debt, and save the amican farmland. If all those farmers who are going under started growing pot, America's midwestern economic system could be saved.
I also dont think the goverment would not have any problem taxing it if it was made legal, because if it was made legall than it would become commercial, just lke tobacco. Taxation on marijuana could pay off the national debt in just a few short years.

Look at it this way: most arrests for marijuana are for simple possession. Law enforcement agencies get billions across the country to fund these arrests. If it were legal, this wouldn't be the only economic impact. Also, it can't be monopolized, which lead to them being against it for the same reason you mentioned. As far as medical usage, to you think the huge pharmaceutical companies want to give up any of their market share to something that is cheap and could even be grown by anyone that needs it? Keeping marijuana illegal has nothing do to with "protecting the people". If that was the case, alcohol would have been prohibited again. How many people have died as a result of alcohol related accidents or health conditions? Now see if you can find one person who has died from marijuana usage....

I don't think marijuana is a problem however it is becoming one because it's illegal. Anytime you outlaw something, there are going to be people that want to do it therefore they do whatever they need to do to get it which leads to crime and eventually it becomes a social problem. The government could tax it if they wanted to but since they outlawed it in most places here, there isn't anything they can do about it.

Ok, wait a second. If marijuana was legal, why would the government have trouble taxing it? They manage to tax alcohol and cigarettes just fine! Where there's a will there's a way and in case y'all haven't noticed, taxing things doesn't seem to be a problem for the government!

The reason marijuana has not been legalized is because the government would not be able to tax it. It would be impossible to keep everyone from growing their own and therefore they could not possibly tax all of it that was distributed.

In places like the Netherlands, Marijuana is legal and its not a problem. The instant it becomes illegal, people will do more and more crime just to get it. Also, I believe the government is also having trouble taxing it.

The problem is the GOVERNMENT. What gives??? Legalize it all or make everything illegal! Yes EVERYTHING! Alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, sex, air......oops, going too far....lol. Yes, it's all about control.....the government can tax it, but they would have a really hard time keeping everyone from growing their own (which would also be almost impossible to tax).

Its completely insane how may people where I live do marijuana. It almost seems just as crazy to enforce drug laws! Everyone would be arrested. And i'm not talking about young kids, i'm mean upstanding people who are strong parts of the community. I just don't understand why its still illegal if practically everyone does it!

There's no reason they wouldn't be able to tax it if it were legal... The problem is that most people don't realize that it is not as harmful a drug as everyone says and that alcohol kills far more people every year. Until everyone realizes that it's not going to change.
