I went to public school... how can you say that morals and values barely exist there? Have you even been to public school. From my understanding a lot more goes on behind the scenes at private schools. There is more structure in the curriculum of public schools as they have state guidelines that they adhere to.

No, I didn't feel guilty sending my children to a Public School. I believe you should teach your children structure and values at home. If they're taught well at home it doesn't matter what they see or here at school. All my children turned out to be great adults and my last child will be a Senior in high School after summer vacation and she's a straight "A" student and has been her entire time in school.

I went to private schools until high school, and the change was made because the public high school offered a superior education to nearby private academies and it also gave me an understanding of what the rest of the world is like. The real world does not have universal morals and values, so it's nice to be confronted with other views while you still have parents to talk it over with.

You statement is not correct. In my observation, many private schools breed arrogance, bad behaviour, and promote the concept of greed and indiffernce to the real world.
There needs to be more structure and values taught in ALL schools and the degeneration you are observing in human morals BEGINS AT HOME, so start teaching your children correctly NOW when they ARE babies, and no matter where you send them to SCHOOL, they WILL behave themselves properly.

I believe that some public schools are great! They have good moral and values and use them daily. My children go to a public school and they say the Pledge Of Allegiance every morning and they have a few seconds of silence for anyone who wants to pray. They are taught manners as well as education. Our school awards academics every 6 weeks. There is even an award for the ones that were doing poorly but brought their grade up. Public school also gives kids opportunities to be involved in extra curricular activities and sports. So much friendship is made in public schools. So do i feel guilty for sending my children to public school? NO! Why should i feel guilty that my children understand the meaning of loving their country and honoring it daily with the Pledge of Allegiance? Why should i feel guilty that my children are well mannered and smart? Why should i feel guilty that my children are involved in sports and etc and have tons of friends?
Why can you not imagine sending yours to public school? Are you afraid to let go? Are you phobic? Do you want them to be stuck at home 24/7? Do you not want them to have friends or be involved in sports? Do you not want them to be dedicated to their country?
Please don't get me wrong.... I understand the pros and cons of public schools and home schooling but i think the pros outweigh the cons and i can say that at the end of every day i am very proud that my children go to a public school and i am very proud that my children are well mannered and understand the value of being an American!

Well I'm not a parent...but what's so bad about a public school. As long as you have good morals, values, and hang out with the right people you'll be fine. If the school district you are in has a well developed curriculum and offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities, then I don't see what would be so bad about it.

Both of my children went to public schools, my son starts Austin Peay this fall to become a public school teacher, my daughter is an honor student in the 11th grade, you teach your children their values and morals at home, they grow up and live in the public world, not hidden from society, they need to know how to deal with and cope with society, and not brush it off because they think their better than everyone else. That's what makes them stable level headed good citizens of AMERICA

My kids go to public school and it's one of the best schools in the city. It teaches excellent morals and values. So no, I never feel guilty. We bought this house because of the school.

Sure I do. Sometimes, I feel guilty about a lot of things. I feeel terrible that my son lives in a country that is turning into a theocracy and freedom hardly exists.
Public schools are bad, but they mirror society. Unfortunately, the only alternative seems to be church schools and churches- where values and morals are talked about- but rarely exist.

My now 4th grader was homeschooled for 3 years...from pre-k to 1st/2nd grade. Do I feel guilty about sending her to school? No, she wanted to go, and loves it. I teach my children morals and values here at home, and do not ever expect the school to do my job.
And, Craig, that is what it boils down to... the public education system should not be teaching your children morals and values...YOU should!
