But I still can't seem to shake the anxiety chest pain off. It pisses me off, I have thoughts running through my mind, what if I'm dying a slow death, what if I will never get better, I'am really scared, I'm on Lexapro 20mg. Can you nhave constant tightness in your chest due to anxiety? Any advise would really help, please.

Chest tightness could also be sign of lack of blood supply to your heart muscle. It would be a good idea to visit cardiologist for more serious testing. Breathing exercises could be very helpful too but please see qualified help!

Perhaps it's not all anxiety. It could be that you have gastritis, an irritation of the stomach/esophagus or intestinal lining. It would give you much the same symptoms that you are describing. It feels like pressing pain in you chest, and might come and go. It may even give you pain in your jaw. I would suggest that you try and over-the-counter med like zantac or ask your doc if this would be a possibility, he may perscribe something like Nexium. Being alarmed will only make it worse, honey, so calm down. Apparently he's tested you for heart problems, and there is nothing. You're on the Lexapro, so your anxitey should be in control (although it's an antidepressant). So it is probably something physical. Watch what you're eating also; reduce any caffiene or sodas; lay off of the salt and fast foods. If you're having problems with your bowels, that would be a sure indicator of gastritis. Wouldn't hurt to ask and would relieve your worry. God bless.

There is something called chest spams that can be related to anxiety. This "tightness" you are feeling in your chest can be due to these spams. However, there is much to be said about second opinions from a Doctor that would consider your age, current health, family history, and other very important things.

Lexapro itself has a side effect of chest pain. However, I'm assuming that your doctor gave you this medication not to get rid of the "tightness" but rather as a way to control your anxiety, thus resulting in a reduction of this pain.

If you are younger without a lot of history of severe heart disease in your family, then I wouldn't worry about it. Sounds harmless. If you are still worried about it, get a second opinion.

I'm going through the same thing right now. I thought I was having anxiety,(and was on anxiety med) but was recently diagnosed with mild asthma which can also cause tightness in the chest. I am no longer taking anxiety medication. Have you looked into this option?
Good luck!

Actually, I experience the same thing. I know that there is in no way any physical problem with me, yet I still experience chest pains. I suffer from anxiety as well. I do think there might be a link.

Sure, it is the stress that builds up inside ourselves. I actually have these too. I was afraid the first time but since I have learned to sit down in a quiet place, take long deep breaths and think of a peaceful place - like the ocean, etc... Try doing this for 10 minutes, afterwards if you really focused on a peaceful place, your pains will subcide.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life
