I went to a wedding where they painted the little people the right colors. It actually turned out really good and it was a great funny story to tell!

For a Friends wedding, she found a topper she wanted, you've probably seen it the one where the bride is dragging the groom. Well, we got some sharpies with the ultra fine tips and matched their hair colors, and put lipstick on her, she always wears red lipstick.
I'm not sure if that is an option, but I know sharpie has a brown pen. I actually used a couple colors to get her hair color.
The groom had a beard, so we actually glued a beard onto the topper.
It was a hit.
Hope this helps.
And congratulations

I had a hard time finding a cake topper that I liked, so I just opted for fresh flowers on the top of our cake. If you can make the one you found work for you with a paint job, go for it, but keep in mind that a lot of cakes don't have a traditional topper any more.

Maybe you could try having it painted by an artist who will not make it look tacky. Another suggestion would be to try another kind of cake topper like the the ones that are just a letter (It could represent your new last name). Hope this helps.

I would paint it ! if you don't paint much try checking with friends even some fingernail polishes could work, I got my cake topper from Wal-Mart (in store not on line) it is pretty neat it is just plastic but it is made to look like glass so the people are clear that could eliminate the problem too?

Did the place recommend somewhere to go and have it painted? If so, try there. Or see if you can find something else that will do. Have you considered having flowers on top of your cake? Good luck!

I agree that flowers or ribbons are a much better option.
Traditional Cake toppers are very outdated, aren't they? They just seem so cheesy, but maybe that's just me.

See if you can find out who the manufacturer is. It is very possible that there are variations and the outlet you have chosen is not aware of it.
