You have really, seriously, pondered this for years? How sad.
You are buying the wrong kind of hot dogs my friend. Simple as that. If this bothers you this much, you obviously should do some investigating into other brands of hot dogs that come in 8 or 10 to a pack.
Of course if you get 10 hot dogs and only 8 buns...then OMG! What will you do with the other 2 hot dogs?!!! You could use bread, but that gets a little soggy and just isn't right!
Let me think here a minute...(Thinking)
OK,so what you need to do is purchase 4 packages of hot dogs...6 to a package. Then you purchase 3 bags of buns...8 to a bag. PRESTO! You will now have 24 hot dogs and 24 buns!
WHEW! Hope this helps.

I've always found that there are 8 hot dog buns and usually ten hot dogs in a package. If you buy the bun length hot dogs, then you will only get 8 in the package. They extra 2 dogs are for all-purpose snacking. I know we never have a hot dog package survive without somebody taking just one out for snacking.

It's so you have a good excuse to put two hot dogs in one bun.
