They are "stepping up to the plate",to do the job our government REFUSES to do!!!!! It is NOT a matter of "racism",as a lot of people on here claim!!!!
In fact, the Minutemen do NOT want people who are racist!!! I read in the paper about a group that wanted to join them, but they were too wacko for the Minutemen,so they refused them!!!!
You've got to remember,a lot of the Minutemen volunteers, are retired policemen, and military!!! And some of them are even grandmothers!!! This whole thing is not even about mexican people as a "race"!!! It's about securing our borders, which SHOULD have been done BEFORE 9-11!!!!!!!! And,it IS about wanting our laws obeyed, and to know the type of people that are coming into this country (and their intentions!!)

Chris Simcox, the founder of the Minutemen in Arizona, was married to a black woman at one time,so i don't know why people call him "racist"!!!!! He has nothing against anyone because of their color or race,i think we can safely say!!!!

There may be some racists, but they have members of all races, so any closet racists amongst them would have to hide it well.

The co-founder of the Minutemen has an ex-wife who is black and a bi-racial child.

It is not a racist organization. The American people in vast majorities are infuriated by the pictures of people hopping across our border illegally in numbers that swamp the border patrol.

In principle I am against vigilantes, however, they serve a purpose when the government cannot or will not enforce the laws. This is a perfect example of such a situation.

Look at this if you think the Minutemen are doing this out of racism: http://www.times-news.com/opinion/local_story_164093730.html

There are those who hold their views on immigration for racial reasons - on both sides of the issue. (For every David Duke, there is a Congressman Gutierrez.)

This does not mean that immigration is a racial issue. And while the immigration issue does attract racists, it seems clear that most of these racists are found amongst the pro-illegal group - in particular, among the ethnic-identy pressure groups and politicians. The current dogma of the "multi-cultural" ideology has convinced many of us Americans that "culture" and "race" are the same things. Just think of the enless paeans to multiculturalism in advertising, political speech, academia, etc: they are always illustrated by a photo of people of different races. This is dangerous and wrong.

While a black American and a white American might be different colors, they are equally American, ie, they share the same culture.

Modern "multi-culturalists" are the true racists when they elevate skin color to a place as primary as culture.

If we have racial problems today, how will our problems impove with a half a billion people thanks to over-immigration struggling to survive in an overpopulated country?

Shouldn't we first resolve the racial problems we have instead of continuing with an immigration policy that will double our population and risk exacerbating an already increasing tendency in our country toward group identity politics?

Those who fear racial conflict or the rise of fascism should support an immigration time-out in order to take a breather, reassess what we are doing, and give the assimilation time to work.

At this point, the Minutemen are 'doing the job that government won't do', and more power to em. I don't think it's racist, I think it's in support of retaining our national sovereignty.

The treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo, signed BY Mexico in 1848, ceded control and interest north of the US/Mexico border, and Mexico also recieved payments for that land. Thus, the United States was born. Now that there's a 'la raza' and 'la reconquista', there's serious concern about the ultimate intentions of the illegal mexican as well as the hispanic-american population, and what their intentions are in the future. We've already seen isolated signs of belligerency, definite instances of lawlessness, and that's how these things begin. Then, they get uglier, and you have to have a draft to turn it around.
The Minutemen would like to see all of that avoided, which is why they're out there, volunteering at the border, raising public awareness, and making our representatives realize that there's people out there that are not happy with what's going on at our southern border. Some Minutemen are also at the northern border, but the southern border is MORE of a concern because it's been a long-standing example of failed policy and weak enforcement. I applaud the Minutemen's commitment to non-violence and their refusal to admit people with strongly racist attitudes, because that type of attitude blurs the issue at hand, namely the government of one country sending it's people north and telling them to reclaim our southern states, in a nutshell, and americans, black, white, indian, hispanic, irish, dutch, whatever, should raise an eyebrow when they listen to Mexico's rhetoric, to at least provide the illusion of possessing the capacity to maintain a skeptical stance toward the hyperbole that extols the dubious virtues of a massive, unskilled, and largely indigent refugee workforce with political aims on influencing if not subverting our american system. Reform is a Good Thing, makes people sit down an think about stuff, and sit up, and take notice.

How high a tax do YOU want to pay? Do you support free-style 'growth' even if that growth ultimately represents a mass funneling of revenue right OUT of the United States? Do you like speaking en englais or in spanish? Decisions, decisions...question authority, question your neighbor, question everything and everybody. Lots to think about, out there...

Minute men are not racist at all they are of all different races, white, black, hispanic, Native American and others... The government has put border security on the back burner for way too long and the minute men are stepping up to the plate trying to help secure this country. The government doesn't seem to think its important that millions of people are getting through, possibly felons, terrorists and God knows what else. I appreciate these guys and I think the government should pay them for their services. They are only trying to help protect this country.

Sorry but there are different races among the minutemen so I don't think it is racism. They who live by the border have had many problems and it is their way of trying to stop some of them.

As a policy, I'm sure they're doing out of patriotism.

Even the revolutionary war had a lot of people doing it out of selfish motives, - but it will still on the right side.

And besides, the minutemen are not "helping the government". They recognize the fact that they are part of "self-government" and simply doing their part.

There is nothing wrong with what they are doing. The government clearly does not care about who the thousands are streaming across the border every day. There is nothing racist about participation in monitoring illegal entry.
