I mean in his prime. He is a bit long in the tooth now, but in his mid to late twenties, no one could touch him. His misfortune was to be born after boxing's heyday.

I meant dominating. Why can't you edit on questions? Without questions there would be no answers. Why the disparity?

i think roy jones was a very very good fighter, however he had the misfortune of dominating a weight class that at the time was less than stellar. that in itself will probably color the way a lot of people see his career. To be the best pound for pound you have to have fought very good fighters no matter what weight class you are participating in. I think back and wonder if Roy could have beaten Marvin Hagler in his prime, or Thomas Hearns when he was a middle weight. I think the mere idea of wondering if a fighter could beat another fighter is proof that altho Roy Jones was a very good fighter, he isn't the best pound for pound

I don't think Roy Jones Jr. was the best P4P in the world. He never fought a real good prize fighter. The only thing good that he did was beat all those mediocre champs from Middleweight to Heavyweight. After that he took a chance to fight a guy who, at the moment, wasn't nobody and got knocked out. Never fought a Taylor, Mosley, Wright, Trinidad, De La Hoya, Mayweather...etc. The only guy he fought was Hopkins and that was in 93. If he fight Hopkins now, he'll probably get himself knocked out.

In order to be the best you have to consistently beat the best. he never did that. In his era Oscar Dela Hoya, even he may not be as talented as Roy Jones definitely beat better fighters or at least fought more higher quality opponents. That goes along way to being a great fighter. Yes he achievements are outstanding. Thank god he never campaigned at welterweight. he had an outstanding career as an amateur its just a pity that his good friend Gerald McClellan was injured in his fight against Nigel Benn and that had a profound effect on him, it made him cautious.

Roy was terrific in his prime. When he was motivated no one could touch him. But he never had those big time opponents you need to really prove your metal. We can only wonder how he would have done against the likes of Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard, Thomas Hearns, Michael Spinks etc. For that reason he can't be considered the best ever.

He shut out James Toney, soundly beat Hopkins, made Vinny Pazienza look like an amateur, beat Gonzalez who later beat Michaelshezamacallit, and moved up to win a heavyweight belt. I think Taver is further proof that losing 40 pounds is a bad idea, he looked lethargic against Hopkins. That was Jones' only mistake in his career.

I think you just answered your question. Reggie Johnson? Wasn't he a baseball player(I was being sarcastic). IMO, in order to be considered the best pound for pound fighter, you have to beat the best. Reggie? John Ruiz? Montel Griffin? I don't question his greatness but best pound for pound? Give me Chavez or Trinidad or Barrera. Guys who proved their worth inside the ring. Guys who wanted to fight and battle. Those are the best in my opinion.
