Perhaps it would help to understand it, if we put ourselves relationship to God in the sentence.
"God is the alpha and the omega. I am the beta and the psi. "
Before I was, God is. After I am God will be.
Using part of St. Patrick's Breastplate Prayer,...
Christ (be) with me, Christ before me,
Christ behind me, Christ within me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ at my right, Christ at my left,
Christ in the heart of everyone who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks to me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

when God says he is the alpha and omega, he means exactly that he is the beginning and the end, as far as to what the end is it depends where you are as a Christian, when the Lord comes for his people and his church, if you are among those that are taken by the Lord, then there is no end for you only a new beginning, however if you are not among those taken by the Lord then there is an end, an eternal end of suffering and damnation.

I believe that the phrase is intended to mean that God has always been here, and will always be.
Since we have no concept of the beginning of all things, nor the end as well, we will never know the end. We weren't around when things started......
I guess that you could take it to mean that the end could by eternal life with Him

The end is what you make it, because the energy of creation (what some call God) is in you. The end is nothing, and the end is everything. There is no beginning or end, there is only now, and God is now. Everything and nothing. The silence between words. The effortless beauty of the creative laws of infinity.

The end of all days, as the earth knows it. It's like saying God is the beginning and ending of the sentence. It's like saying before there was earth, there was God, and after the earth has perished there will still be God.

don't look at it like a circle....look at it like a spiral. it never ends, it is infinite....it begins, it ends, it recreates, it ends, it evolutionizes, it ends again and so on....life equals change always. anyone who resists against changes in their lives are creating static which is why it's so important to understand the alpha and omega concept to apply in one's own life.

It means He was there at the beginning of time and at the end of time. Time will be of no consequence when the millenual reign is over.
Eternity has no time clock.

according to Aquinas, the end of something is the fullfilment of that particular thing.if God is the end of our existence then He is the fulfilment of our existence- we don't cease to exist in the end therefore but we become as perennial as the philosophia perennis
