The short answer is $173 for an individual health insurance policy for a single person, according to a study conducted by the Kaiser Family Foundation. Of course, premiums depend on what kind of plan you have, where you live, your age and sex, medical history, and other factors. For example, another KFF study found that a 25-year old would spend $57 a month for a HMO policy while a 60-year old would spend $205 for an identical policy. A few states do not allow health insurance companies to charge more based on age. And the average monthly premium in California is about $211 – about $40 dollars above the national average, according to California Healthcare Foundation. Moreover, some medical conditions can increase premiums by 20 to 80 percent.

This depends on too many factors to give you an accurate answer. The good news is that certain benefits are guaranteed now as part of the essential health benefits from the Affordable Care Act http://www.taylorbenefitsinsurance.com/milpitas-group-individual-health-insurance-agent What this means is that no matter which plan you choose, there will be a base level of coverage that they have to meet (and you can't be excluded based on prior health condition).

My husband's company pays us so much money for health insurance. If we paid out of pocket for everything, it would be like 12,000.00 per year for a family of 4. This is not group insurance. They looked at our age and health programs (which we are young and healthy).

That answer would vary greatly by geographic region, demographics of the pool of people involved, and level of policy coverage. i suggest calling health insurance companies to find detailed information.
