Does counseling really work?

Yes. If you find a good councelor he or she can help you work through issues. A councelor can help you step outside of an issue and look at it from a different angle so you can overcome problems and issues in your life. Councelling has literally been a life saver for two of my friends.

Yes, but I agree with some of the other answers that it depends a lot on what you bring to it. Counseling cannot "fix someone"... but counseling can be helpful because it also is not possible to "fix ourselves" since relationships are so important. The process of humbling ourselves, and opening up to someone else who is skilled in listening and other interventions will help.

well most our problems could be solved by conversation and with the help of common sense, personally i never went to counseling i think it's a waste of money and you could make your self esteem low

Yes it does if you are positive about trying to resolve your issues but it will not if you refuse to have a positive mind-set. You must be convinced yourself to take the first step to see the counsellor and cooperate. You also need to be patient and not in a hurry.
