I'm building a basement rec room and was wondering if anyone has any alternative methods for a ceiling other than a drop ceiling or dry wall - any ideas??? I'm trying to be creative.

When I redecorated the basement rec room for a friend of mine, her goal was to muffle noise as this was to be the new social gathering place for her teens and their friends. We stapled egg crates and sprayed them black.

You can actually get as creative as your wallet allows, I suppose. A friend told me he wants to order something that resembles diamondplate to do his...it's in a racing theme, naturally.

Another friend has a side field full of wild bamboo and decided to do hers in an island theme. Whatever you choose, good luck! That's the fun of decorating. You can always change it out later.

My husband and I did a ceiling in wood panel called "T-1-11". It's an exterior wood panel and it's rough textured with groves; but it fits together with a grove. It looks great after it's painted. We saw it in a doctors office who had it all over the walls and ceiling. And it's structurly sound and gives a nice, cottage look to your home.

place Douglas fir 4x4 false beams every 4 ft on center threw room. on top of these place knotty pine ship lap bead boards stain or paint both beams and boards. give the room a very warm look. this can be costly but it looks great.
Old fashion tin ceiling title works well also. you can paint them any color you want. fairly easy to install. you can find them at Lowe's or the home depot

Stick with the drop ceiling. It's easy to repair, easy to gain access to fix electrical and plumbing situations in the future, and looks much nicer.

How about fabric? Use a staple gun to secure it up there.
