She was obviously insane, I am not God so I will not say whether or not she is going to hell or not. I do think she should spend the rest of her life in prison and get some serious counseling.

I firmly believe that she is guilty of murder. She took the lives of five innocent children. And regardless of her reasons, she is guilty of murder. I have no idea if she is insane or possessed and whether or not she will go to hell is not up to me, but to God. I do not have any compassion for her, but I do for her children. They are in a much better place now, but their lives were cut short by their own mother. I do not know how anyone can believe that she she did was right or even justified.
As for her husband, I find it very difficult to believe that he was not aware of the situation and the problems - unless he was so far removed from the family (mentally and emotionally) that he had no idea she was at that stage. I don't believe he is directly responsible, but if his wife had had so many problems and was medicated for them in the past, I personally do not see why he was not more cautious about leaving her alone with them without some sort of supervision - and for this reason I believe he is somewhat indirectly responsible for not helping to prevent this trajedy.

I think her ex-husband should be held accountable for the children's murder too. He obviously stood by and let her deal with her depression without any thoughts to helping her with her work load. I am sure she felt over whelmed with taking care of all the children and him. I am not saying what she did was right, it was so wrong. I do however believe he was very selfish in the marriage, and has remained that way. He should have seen she was a basket case. I am sure there were warning signs. He should of protected those children more. "He chose to lend it a blind eye" If she is guilty of murder? That is up to G-d. Depression is its own kind of Hell.

Although I am a Christian and I'm not suppose to be judgmental,I can't help but to think she should be punished to the max.God gave her the blessing of being a mother of five healthy children and she took it upon herself to take those lives away.As far as her being crazy, she has to be.Possessed,I don't think so.I don't know how her husband can even look at her.As for her minister,in my opinion it is his job to deliver the message,if she had trouble interpreting the message she should have ask questions.
I have three children and I can't imagine ever doing anything to harm them. They are my life and I would give my last breath. How any woman can look at her child's face and want to hurt them is beyond my comprehension. Can you imagine what those poor kids thought when mommy was chasing them around the house to kill them!?

We have to deal with this woman in this world, and the murder of innocent children is not a foregivable crime for human beings. If God wants to forgive her, that's entirely up to Him, but she needs to pay the price for her crimes here. I don't think anyone could ever pay the price for killing 5 innocent children, but one things for sure, she should never be allowed out to be "free" again. The old testament says "an eye for an eye", so personally, I think the death penalty would be a good decision in this case. I can't imagine why she'd want to live anyway, I know I wouldn't want to live if I lost all of my children, much less had to live with the fact I killed them. Lethal injection would be an act of compassion.

Of course she is guilty of murder. That woman was not possessed that is just an excuse to cover up her insanity. Will she go to hell? Only god will decide that. I think she should be put away for good. This woman sparked a whole new thing with women killing their kids. People who kill their kids should be put away to rot and die a slow death..that is my thought on that..

Andrea Yates was the reason I stopped watching the news, and thanks for reminding me! She seems to be proof of religion getting in the way of someone getting treatment they desperately need, tragic consequences. Yes, she's crazy, yes, she's guilty of murder, but she also had a history of severe post-partum depression that no one paid attention to.

I felt bad for her. Yes she is crazy, something had to set her off. I think she needed to be taken care of after the birth of her last child. Didn't she suffer from PPD. I think at that point, she had finally flipped her lid.

Personally I think she should be put to death. Drown her the way she drowned her children...
Insane? Well no sane person would do that, but should she be excused for it? I just don't know.
