few years back, I used a trial software ( I don't remember it now) which found out grave areas in my hard disk for files or applications which occupied more space. Using it I found out whether they were irrelevant and deleted them. Does anyone know about such software?

I've tried a lot of cleaning softwares. they do clean alot of hidden garbage in windows.

1) if you like to clean stuff & earse your tracks (from the internet) try "Privacy Guardian" from PC Tools. very easy to use as well.
http://www.pctools.com/privacy-guardian/

2) "Window Washer" from Webroot, is much more proffesinal tool. very recommended.

I find both very good. my advice, download both (free trial) & test them yourself.

Are you talking about clean disk?

You can use it on your computer without software.
Just go to your C drive, right click on C drive and go to properties and theres a clean disk option.

Click on this link:

Theres a list of programs that will help you clean your disk. Maybe the one you used will pop up in your memory.

Clean DISK option on your Windows will:
• Remove temporary Internet files.
• Remove downloaded program files. For example, ActiveX controls and Java applets that are downloaded from the Internet.
• Empty the Recycle Bin.
• Remove Windows temporary files.
• Remove optional Windows components that you are not using.
• Remove installed programs that you no longer use.
You can start Disk Cleanup, by doing any of the following: • Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type cleanmgr, and then click OK.

-or-
• Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Disk Cleanup.

-or-
• In Windows Explorer or My Computer, right-click the disk in which you want to free up space, click Properties, click the General tab, and then click Disk Cleanup.

Windows XP has everything you need, don't waste your hard earned money on that crap! I have been building computers for over 20 years and do everything myself!! The only user level things you need to do is run disk cleanup and defrag once a month and empty out your temp files/cookies from your browser! nothing more. If you know someone who knows how to clean a registry you can do that but IT IS NOT NECESSARY!!
